It was called 'corps' at my school too. We could do that, scouts or Duke of Edinburgh scheme. Most of us went for corps for some reason. I enjoyed it for all the non service bits. I learnt how an engine works, pulled vehicles to bits & went on a couple of camps where all sorts of fun happened.
One of my CCF colleagues served in the navy in the Falklands but that was a few years after we all left the CCF.

From my then state school CCF we didn't do any flying, but we did go at a ridiculous pace around Devonport on a navy rescue boat, fired many interesting and different weapons, and travelled in multiple army vehicles. (my school, like Kier Starmer's, went independent to avoid going comp in 1977)
