I am crossing the Deep, which is also pretty Wide, and all is quiet, little stirs beneath the low rolling waves below the pale blue sky, but still, I keep a watch...

I'm spending 12 hours criss-crossing the English Channel tomorrow, in the crow's nest, on the look out for sea serpents on their Spring migration past the French Cotentin Peninsula and up to the English inlets. Not a good time for wild swimming!

Book jacket for Michael Smith’s translation of King Arthur’s Death (the Alliterative Morte Arthure). The jacket shows a linocut of a knight looking angrily thoughtful; the book is lying on an antique wooden surface.

In the Alliterative Morte Arthure (ca. 1400), King Arthur’s foreign wars see him seemingly destroying his enemies but, with delusional vanity now driving his every move, events turn against him at home. Returning, he loses his friends, his kingdom & his life. Old stories, huh, what can they tell us?

Indeed, sir! If the egg is cracking I fear one may be too late !! Which reminds me, I must ensure the traps are set correctly. I owe the apothecary a tub of dragon's spit...

Public Safety Announcement:

Egg hunts can be fun, but this is also the time of year that Wyvern hatchlings emerge! If you find an attractive, gold, or purple egg that feels warm to the touch, or may be emitting a low 'thrum', gather your family at once & retire to your cellar, with chocolate...

I love naughty dogs, and cat paws in fresh concrete! It's a fantastic millenia old traditional way to ruin a floor!

We have saved the last bit of daylight at this end of the year, all so we can spend, spend, spend through the Spring and Summer months, only to run out again at the end of Autumn. Year in, year out, surely we can do better than this?

The wind exists to pass on stories, to bring songs to ears far away, to carry ideas, peculiar notions and tales of adventure most likely untrue. On blustery days come calls to action! Be on your feet it's time to dance with the breeze in your hair!

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 7:
If you find it hard to get into the zone, you may need a sensory trigger. A “getting ready” song on your phone; a square of dark chocolate; a special scent; a series of movements. See which one works best, and keep using it. It will work faster every time you do.

Long lies the day from dawn to the soft setting of a cloud-barred sun. Tired from toil, teasing out the wisdom from the wind, the sense from stone, I listen to the song of the tea kettle. Now to rest, read the dreams of the dead, then to sleep...

There is a sharp, bright laughter coming from the shadowed place. It's the sound of a glass lantern shattering, a flame cast across the way. The creature has wound itself into an hysteria, fed on the blood of those who underestimated its power & cunning. We hide without care. Breathe not...

Today, as I stood on a high rooftop on a hill, in the sun, I looked out across the city, & saw the glimmer of a beast on the wing, silent, slipping in & out of our realm, this dimension, like a heat haze, or spilled water, reflecting strange & lovely memories, thoughts of you my friend...
