Just as Jesus invited Thomas to touch his wounds and trust new life, the risen Christ meets us as we touch our planet’s wounds—bringing healing, hope, and wholeness. #John20 #EcoSpirituality @patheos.com. Featuring @ecoamerica.bsky.social @lutheransrc.bsky.social www.patheos.com/blogs/ecopre...
The so-called "God Squad" voted to exempt the oil & gas industry from the Endangered Species Act during HOLY WEEK. On this Good Friday, lament is the only appropriate response. @patheos.com @lutheransrc.bsky.social www.patheos.com/blogs/ecopre...
#NoKings rallies offer faith leaders a chance to add their perspectives as public theologians. I hope this analysis of my own speech inspires more clergy to step into their prophetic role as public theologians! @patheos.com www.patheos.com/blogs/ecopre...
On Palm Sunday, Christians can invoke the Spirit of Jesus to denounce the political and military systems of our time that are driven to commit crimes against humanity by the demonic ideology of Christian nationalism. @patheos.com www.patheos.com/blogs/ecopre...
Blessings on your faith journey!
Well, as I say in the article, the ritual could be done individually to contemplate and reflect on Earth’s Via Dolorosa. Preaching on the theme for each station is only one option for the resource.
Rituals during Holy Week can help us process profound feelings of environmental loss due to war, species extinction, habitat loss, deforestation, and catastrophic weather events. Here is a liturgical resource for an Ecological Stations of the Cross. @patheos.com www.patheos.com/blogs/ecopre...
The 5th Sunday of Lent is ideal for countering the racism of white Christian Nationalism. The Valley of Dry Bones in Ezekiel 37 echoes across the millennia to our own time urging diligent work for racial justice and reparations. Sermon ideas included. @patheos.com www.patheos.com/blogs/ecopre...
The story of the man born with blindness in John 9 counters the cruelty of Christian nationalism by affirming that those with disabilities are worthy of respect, healing, and justice. @patheos.com www.patheos.com/blogs/ecopre...

The story of Jesus & the Woman at the Well in John 4 has important things to teach us about the value, worth, and dignity of women as we counter the misogyny of “purity culture” and toxic masculinity in Christian Nationalism today. @patheos.com www.patheos.com/blogs/ecopre...

Tripp Fuller & I had a great discussion today on #HomebrewedChristianity about preaching & social issues, including how to deal with pushback, what it means to preach "prophetically," and how to engage with hot topics in politically divided congregations. www.youtube.com/live/5Ds7kLZ...

In John 3:16, notice - Jesus did not say, “For God so loved human beings.” No, he said that God so loved THE WORLD! This means that the salvific significance of Jesus is not limited to human beings, it's meant for all of Creation. @patheos.com www.patheos.com/blogs/ecopre...
Today is #AshWednesday and the beginning of #Lent. Amid continuing climate, environmental, and political crises – all of which are connected – these 40 days can be a time of collective spiritual discipline, resistance to oppression & call for liberation. www.patheos.com/blogs/ecopre...
Genesis 12:1-4a can help us counter the ethnocentrism of Christian nationalism in Lent while supporting immigrant communities. @patheos.com www.patheos.com/blogs/ecopre...
All the more reason why Christians who oppose Christian Nationalism must resist, counter, and reclaim the faith from the abusers. Giving up and giving in is not an option.
Hi! Thanks for weighing in! It's important that we understand the historical context of passages that would be considered misogynistic today, and to not apply them literally in our modern context. There are many other passages that lift up the voices of women, including Jesus himself.
In Matthew 4:1-11 (Lent 1), the temptations of Jesus and those of Christian Nationalism are eerily similar. Fortunately, Jesus teaches us how to counter and resist those temptations while reclaiming the true spirit and integrity of Scripture. @patheos.com www.patheos.com/blogs/ecopre...
Benito is a threat b/c he makes art so alluring and enjoyable you want to understand everything about it and then you end up learning about sugar and slavery and colonialism and the Taínos and Hawaii and then you probably have some thoughts of your own, and that's why art is powerful and dangerous
Ugh, that would have been even worse. Using his song for a commercial feels sacrilegious.
