Enjoyable long weekend in Fife checking out birds that are rare on Tiree including nesting Ospreys & Grey Partridges, also Tree Sparrows, Nuthatches, woodpeckers and various distant scoters... #BirdingScotland
Doh! That's a pity but still a good haul. Wonder if there were any Tiree birds in there...
Golden Plovers are everywhere on Tiree's rich grasslands just now - over 6,000 here today. Also the Grey-bellied Brant & Todd's Canada Goose both still at Cornaigmore & 8 Little Terns new at Gott Bay #BirdingScotland

Interesting - most of our Barnies left at the end of last week (before Storm Dave). I had FBX (right white) with a yellow spiral on the left earlier this winter, which might be a Svalbard bird. Also here over the years CAD (orange), CTU (yellow) and LUD (green) - all from the Svalbard population.
Dozens of Redwings passing through Tiree just now on their way north, with many in sub-song. Also a Grey Plover new for the Balephuil patch year at Loch a' Phuill this am in with 1,300 Golden Plovers #BirdingScotland

A rocky sea shore with grey skies and choppy waters. Low flying black and white seabirds can be seen and a large group of wading birds and gulls are bustling together on the sand. Text over the image says: How are wintering waders faring on Tiree?
Good news for wintering waders on Tiree!
Earlier this year a team of five RSPB Scotland staff set sail to the Isle of Tiree on a mission to find out how wintering waders are faring on one of Scotlandβs most beautiful islands π
This neck-collared Barnacle Goose at Cornaigbeg,Tiree yesterday was ringed as a naturalised bird at Loch Leven in July 2024. It spent the 2024/25 winter with the Svalbard Barnies at Caerlaverock & was in the Faroe Isles in June. Next stop Iceland?.. per @waterbirdcm.bsky.social #BirdingScotland

Yes, it's unusual for sure and seems to be tied in with the big influx to the Hebrides last autumn. Coal Tits bred annually on Coll in 2004-17 after similar influxes but have since died out there. Tiree has zero wooded habitat for breeding tits but Barra would seem to offer more potential habitat.
Coal Tit new in the Balephuil garden this am - a rare migrant out here & the third species of tit this month on Tiree. Avocet still present at Balevullin too. Happy days! #BirdingScotland
