I don't really understand the mechanics behind this setting and why high-speed isn't always the default. Maybe it's for controllers or joysticks and Proton messes up the detection. Either way, this switch is the difference between my being bad and being adequate at the game.

Whoever out there is playing Touhou on Linux (dozens of us?), maybe this helps. At least for my particular setup (steam+proton on nvidia+wayland+kwin), changing the input latency setting to "high-speed" makes a tremendous difference in keyboard responsiveness.
I'm glad someone else shares my opinion on the bear bells. I'd rather run from a bear than constantly listen to that noise on an otherwise peaceful hike

Anyway I replayed Metroid Dread and it's an extremely good game and everyone should play it. There was, however, some lag during cut scenes and some boss fights on the Switch 2 which was disappointing.
