Imagine if a child had planned to run away from home, or harmed themselves in some other way, the media would very likely be sympathetic to the child, but with this, no, the child and her suffering is a topic for minimising, not supporting.

This probably isn't going to change people's minds, but sometimes it is easier to evoke sympathy for dogs than it is to evoke sympathy for trans folks.
