I'm so honored to be part of this stellar group of writers at one of my favorite journals. Thank you to @tylermalone.bsky.social for my fitting artwork too!
I've written very little in the last 18 months. This story bears more weight than usual.

I love these prehistoric-looking fiddleheads. Delicious, too!
Chicago winters are insane but the summers are glorious!

Bad Language faced out on a shelf at Skylight Books in LA. The shelf talker card by Mick reads "A fascinating manifesto/memoir about the ways in which violence weaves into language. How do the things we say, and how we say it. transform into violence, and how can we reduce that harm? So Mayer Icans heavily on Ursula Le Guin for answers, which is the correct approach."
Booksellers are the absolute best. The jam, the bees, the world.
Thank you Mick at Skylight Books LA for reading & seeing BAD LANGUAGE (& putting it there above Martin Amis hahaha). Can't believe how far a book can travel!!
An excellent meme
Back on my BS (Googling if any of the old, male archaeologists I worked with and who harassed me and many others are dead yet)

Happens to me as well, itโs hell. White ppl think Iโm too pale to have Egyptian heritage but when Iโm at a Lebanese restaurant & I mention it, theyโre like yes! You look like my cousin. Then I remember the time a woman grabbed my face bc my nose didnโt match my surname (I used my Irish dadโs then) ๐

Sooo good. When I first saw it as a kid, I truly thought that by now weโd have flying cars and weโd order noodles from flying boats. I also thought Iโd have pink hair (not too late for that tho)
I was just watching this movie last night! A classic.
okay hear me out
In protest, Iโm going to start skeeting Redwall-inspired descriptions of bird meals:
Today, near Lough Neagh: A small feast. Pine needle encrusted hare, dragonfly wings with gorse leaves, smoked bacon chip crumbs on algae.
