A: Thanks for everyone who gave their thoughts on Shenmue III, really appreciate it. B: Going on another Bsky break, two weeks minimum. See you sometime.

Question: I'm nearing the end of Shenmue II and it's been great. I'm half-tempted to get to III someday, but I have heard... extremely mixed reviews about it. For anyone who's played the third game, can you tell me whether or not it's worth it?

WOW, that tagline's disturbingly prescient lmao. I'd definitely be scared by Mel Gibson pointing a gun at me under any context, present or past.

Also, for the longest time, I haven't really been a Musou fan. I only played like the first three Dynasty Warriors (including the fighting game lol) and decided that was all the Musou I ever needed to play in my life. So why the hell is DW Origins looking so appealing to me?!

Well, enough being edgy. Yesterday's haiku was Streets of Rage 2, still a valid contender for greatest beat-em-up ever made. Now here's #27:

Murder mystery
Superman IV discussion
Wow, damn fine sandwich

It was refreshing to have a man of such prestige and status actually be genuinely decent. I hate that's such a huge fucking rarity today. It's like for every one Lynch, there's a hundred Neil Gaimans, many of which likely haven't been caught yet. One reason of several why I say I'm a misanthrope...

Big thing that stands out in my mind about Lynch: All accounts I've read about the guy loved his personality. At worst, he was eccentric and cryptic, but it sounded like he was an incredibly chill, fun, and kind man who won the admiration of anyone who worked with him. He was an absolute good.

If you’re planning on watching any Lynch, my advice is: don’t watch any analysis videos, don’t think about what stuff is “supposed” to mean, just get your own unique experience from it!!

I think people have become far too concerned with the “correct” interpretations of media. Just experience it!!!

Drawing of the red room from Twin Peaks. Link from "Link's Awakening" is dancing like The Little Man. York from "Deadly Premonition" and Maria from "Silent Hill 2" are seated in the armchairs. There's a statue of Ransom the Clown from "Thimbleweed Park." Agent Cooper from Twin Peaks is peeking in from behind the curtains

Apparently, mine's some effing Mel Gibson thriller called Payback. That's probably a bad sign but I don't remember anything about this film and I don't really care to investigate lol 🤷‍♂️

I've said it before, but "filler" originally described a specific phenomenon in anime adapted from manga: episodes and arcs created to "fill time" so the manga stayed ahead of the anime.

That meaning has been mutated now to mean anything that doesn't explicitly further the plot.

Which sucks.

I'll always love this photo of him and John Waters from the late 70s. Of course it was at Bob's Big Boy too.

I do really like their pork rolls, yeah. I actually wonder if Wawa inspired the Ween song "Pork Roll Egg & Cheese" but I'm probably way off.

If you're feeling down today for whatever reason, and today has at least two very valid reasons for it, just remember Dale Cooper's advice: Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. I'm going to treat myself to something at Wawa after work.

... well, if Bob Uecker's passing didn't royally bum everyone out today, David Lynch's absolutely will. RIP to one of my favorite directors of all time, and certainly one of the weirdest to ever exist. Going to loop Laura Palmer's theme for awhile while reflecting on his works...

Yeah, Nintendo just kind of tossing it out with a wet thud and saying "here you go" somewhat limply feels like a major burying of the lede. Maybe the leaks forced their backs against the wall but I still feel like this could have been handled with more aplomb.

C: Yesterday's haiku was Goldeneye 007 with a nod to the infamously short playable Oddjob in multiplayer. Harold Sakata was not that short, so I feel like he used to be Nick Nack at some point in development. Anyway, #26:

Our friend was kidnapped
So here's his little brother
And a wrestler too

B: I am very much not a sports fan, but since Bob Uecker cameo'd on Futurama, of which I AM a fan, I feel compelled to wish him an RIP. Sounded like an all-around rad guy too.

A: I'm kinda irrationally annoyed Nintendo just unceremoniously shadow-dropped the Switch 2, but I guess the leaks had them up against the wall without a more concentrated plan. It looks neat so far but I have Lawyer-tendo on thin ice for now, so I'll regard further news with aloof caution.

Yesterday's haiku was Axelay, a sequel promise more painful to me than Silksong combined with N1RV Ann-A. Now here's #25, probably a bit of an easy one for anyone who grew up with this slice of nostalgia:

Lethal slaps only
Library basement good times
This should be Nick Nack

The more people who come to see Fortnite as the pop culture parasite it is, the better. Still, wow, that is just... there's got to be a better word than "disappointing."

1 year ago 1 0 1 0

Yesterday's haiku was Wolfenstein: The New Order. Kudos to MachineGames for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle too! Now here's #24:

Fight the armada
Arms installation complete
No fucking sequel

Mortol very good. Somehow, though, not many people (myself included) seem to like Mortol II more. But yes, enjoy cracking into the rest of the roster. I still need to go back to it and at least gold every game someday.

Plutonia MIDI Pack The Plutonia MIDI Pack is a music pack for The Plutonia Experiment, released on 8 October 2013. It is vanilla compatible in the sense that all tracks can be played back in vanilla Doom. An optional ad...

I genuinely like TNT more than Plutonia, I dunno why the vocal majority prefers the latter. That said, it's worth playing through at least once, though consider running it with the MIDI pack which gives it new compositions instead of recycling music from the first two: doomwiki.org/wiki/Plutoni...

I see CT is once again critic-proof, much to my personal and idiosyncratic exasperation. Sadly, I fully expected that, but just... auuuuuuugh, just once, I want some semi-legitimate game authority to take CT down a peg. Blurgh. Thank you very much for looking into that, though!

I'm admittedly curious to know what this publication rated Chrono Trigger if you can find that out. I would probably be irritated to find out the answer, lol

Favo is Snorlax with Gloom as my runner-up. What can I say, I'm a gen 1 boomer lol

My weird haiku on Friday was very easy for those in the know, but if you don't know it, check out Trio the Punch by Data East when you get the chance. It's... an event. Now here's #23:

We fucking lost big
But Billy wakes up, pissed off
And he'll kill them ALL
