Wow, UK. So you accept gender recognition certificates from certain countries, but the list you provide reveals that you want the process to be as humiliating and difficult as possible.
Ireland? No.
Canada? No.

There are far worse things going on, but oh my we're living in a farce. When is this Emperor's New Clothes nonsense, this sycophancy, going to end? Everything about this guy is absurd. And dangerous. How many have died, will die, because of this weak man?

Image of the Montreal skyline as seen from the overlook on Mount Royal. The sky is grey, with a ribbon of yellow as the glow remaining from sunrise peeks through on the horizon. The trees in the foreground are bare, there is some snow on the rooftops.
Looking out from the Kondiaronk overlook this morning, it struck me how much of the view is now obstructed by tall buildings, most of which are new. Do we really want our view to be a wall of skyscrapers? These aren't providing much-needed affordable housing; many are luxury flats.

So incredibly chilling.
I would say, 'don't they realise that this protects no one?' Of course the architects know this. It is about hate, control, scapegoating. Anyone who deviates from some miniscule societal gender ideal is at risk. But it's more than that.

It's so disheartening (and that is being far too kind and measured) to see the TERFs prevail. Enough of this transphobic nonsense.

Of all the headlines I've seen regarding this story, this one best encapsulates the absurdity of it. Isn’t it interesting how those decrying censorship take censorship to new heights? Ffs. Fools.
A tree shaped like and upright slingshot, with snow on its arms, stands in the foreground of other snow-covered young trees. The sun strains through the trees and a solid cloudy sky, on the right of the photo.

This case has disturbed me to the core from the early days. Cruel political points.

I wonder what measures they took to make sure they weren't introducing invasive species to the area. It would have been helpful to have that mentioned, or at least acknowledged, in the article.

The peculiar age we are in will be the subject of some interesting -- and excoriating? -- scholarly research in the future.

It must be winter: first batch of vegan mince pies.
of course, now I see that there is a brief mention of this in the Guardian piece. Hah, serves me right for skimming while on the bus. I still think it’s a point that deserves further investigation.
Part of what is fascinating about the print history of Maclise's book is that American editions removed the Black model and swapped him for a European one.

This is just the latest of so many headlines. I really didn’t have it on my bingo card for this year that the UK would turn so emphatically into an unsafe place for trans women. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

I challenge anyone who is "pro-life" to tell me how the preventable death of Tierra Walker was in any way acceptable. Harrowing read. Shame.

We (those of us in rich global north countries) rarely consider the impact of our daily lives on others around the world. Many of our habits are detrimental to global health.
