if Ds control congress, they could pass a bill to send people checks, funded by taxing billionaires. let trump veto it if he wants.

include a provision in the bill that trump's name can't be on the checks.

I said it before and I'll say it again:

Giving a pack of Epstein associates a comprehensive list of all children in the country with home address and school listed, sortable by various traits that indicate vulnerability to exploitation, is the literal diametric opposite of keeping kids safe.

Every AI commercial gaslights you into thinking you're an idiot. Before you had access to AI you were too stupid to find your girlfriend's makeup, or boil an egg, or pick a shirt. Every commercial starts from the premise of "Hey, so you know how you're the dumbest fucking fuck to ever do it?"

Why Yale’s term paper on what’s wrong with college gets a ‘D-’ | Will Bunch An Ivy League university's report on the loss of faith in higher ed ignores what really killed the American Dream of college.

That Yale report on what's wrong with U.S. college saw some trees (high cost, unfair admission, etc.) but missed the forest: the 60-year right-wing crusade to undermine higher ed, from slashing budgets to stifling speech

How to really fix college. My new column www.inquirer.com/opinion/yale...

this sounds kinda like a "who cares" achievement but its a very exciting milestone for rich guys who are extremely invested in a future where robots they control are slavedrivers and prison guards for the rest of the human population

let's make a cultural value judgment: palantir are a bunch of execrable fascist shitheads and their ideas go against the basis of every civilized country on earth, from which they should be extirpated like the intellectual cancer they are

I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.

In short - this is the problem with modern media consumption:

‘Bro with a podcast’ is mistaken for actual journalism.

Joe Biden literally expanded rural bus service, set up a rural broadband program, set up a vast number of infrastructure projects in rural areas, presided over a massive rural economic upswing… and we just pretend it didn’t happen

Google Starts Scanning All Your Photos As New Update Goes Live Google wants its AI to see all the photos of "you and your loved ones." Billions of users must now decide.

These companies cannot train their new genAI models without masses of other people’s data, and they are *running out*. This is just one more way for them to turn their users into raw material to satisfy the needs of their digital sausage meat generators.

Reminiscent of that bug in Crusader Kings 3 where games several generations in would hit massive slowdown because the game kept checking who was and wasn't castrated over and over.

I don't recall any previous transformative technologies that had to be sold to the public so hard. No one in 1999 was going, "Guys. Cell phone? It's coming, whether we like it or not. I think it's important, FOR WOMEN ESPECIALLY, to learn about cell phone. So that we're not left behind!!"

Disney has exactly two franchises that are made for endless sequels, and they've squandered them both. The first, Fantasia, because they're too cowardly to create real art. The second, The Rescuers, because they're too cowardly to go back to their roots and tell tales about child abuse.

Garret Anderson played for the California Angels, the Anaheim Angels and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

And while he's getting talked about as a doubles hitter, he did hit 28+ home runs in four straight years.

Mamdani hasn't had time to really think about all that space he now has, because he spends most of his time at City Hall and around New York City. He tries to keep a semblance of his old life by getting around the city on foot, by bike or train.

"If you spend every single day driving around in a tinted window security detail, you will have a very specific view of the city," he said. "You actually meet other New Yorkers and you break out of the bubble that so many have come to expect of politics, where politicians only seem to be spending time with other politicians or the people who donated to make them politicians."

I'd say that this applies to anyone traveling in a car in any city. Being in a car versus walking, riding, or taking transit fundamentally changes how you view a place and your relationship to it. I wish more leaders set this kind of example.
