Today is my Birthday! As a disabled person, I will ALWAYS celebrate my birthday, because it is another year surviving in a system not built for me/us. It's been a wild year, but so much new stuff is coming soon, which you bet your butts I will platform here. For today, I will celebrate by eating. 🖖🏻

See, I love an em dash, because it provides a visual pause for the reader, and because it is a way to get away with girthy sentences. 🤓 But AI uses it as a means to avoid declarative sentences, and hence, upsetting users.

This post clarifies a LOT of what irks me about ChatGPT and our evolving sense of language. ChatGPT loves "bland melodrama"—language like "it wasn't just x...it was y." On the one hand, this makes it easy to spot. But once you spot it, that s*** is everywhere. ugh.

Alice Wong, disability rights advocate and wordsmith, dies at 51 Alice Wong, a transformational leader for disability rights and justice, who founded the Disability Visibility project to magnify disabled culture, died Nov. 14.

A nice obituary for Alice, who was going to be recognized as one of The Post 50.

I hate that we now have to live without this phenomenal woman.

FB is officially advertising foot porn. It is not called that, and I am the LAST person to throw faux moral outrage at this, but... FB is getting Interesting as it evolves into its form. This is why I love being object oriented.

I'm presenting today at #SCMS2025, if you're around, and what to hear me discoursing about queer crip epistomologies of sex, death and shit... complete with A/V material! 🤓 Really though I excited to be in community with others. Join us! It's gonna be fun.

Oliver, your stamina is amazing! Just looking at this schedule makes me tired. Granted, these are all places I want to be/go, so I understand the agenda. 😁

His book The Audible Past has had a profound impact on my own research. What a terrible loss to the academic community!

Web Rings and Blog Carnivals were/are certainly cozier alternatives to our increasing sterilized and hegemonic digital landscape. At least, the top layer of our current web/GUI visual discourse.

Dr. Cameron Irby

I don't know about *personal* websites, but I do have a very good friend, colleague, and cohorter—Dr. Cameron Irby, who uses one as his official site: cirby.neocities.org so...it's a Thing™

Today was a good day. I am recovering well from a (minor but necessary) toe amputation. AND today is my 35th birthday. My last year of youth—according to Nielsen demographics. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I am grateful for lovely peers, friends and colleagues. On to the next year, and more criptastic adventures. lol

I applied for student loan forgiveness in the summer of 2021. This morning I learned that my loans have been officially and completely discharged. To quote several friends, it is great to come into 2025 with significantly less debt over my head. Whatever else happens, today is a good day.

Me talking about Bluesky: The "echo chamber" criticism is undergirded by two common internet fallacies, that X reflects genuine mainstream discourse and that social media is only useful when users are confronted at all times with social and political conflict

Normal person: Hey man how's it going

I am convinced that without ready access to Dragon Professional Individual (we do not talk about the Home version. It is a scam. It sits on the throne of lies...) A whole subsection of disabled/Crip academia would collapse.

It's me. I am talking about me. I would collapse.

That Feeling When™ you've been writing about queercrip podcasts as a viable alternative to ableist power structures AND you realize in retrospect that said chapter heavily features both MOM & DAD as initialisms.... Totally intentional dear reader. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
