New addition to the family πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€

Finally read the initial Earthsea book for the first time (which is criminal, I know). I'm stunned at Le Guin's sharp, simple, yet impactful writing style. As someone who leans toward flowery language and fears I need to over describe, it was a refreshing reminder that I can, in fact, chill.

Putting the querying of my ace memoir on hold for now. Despite good feedback, it's even harder to break into the NF space than I expected! Luckily I've had an idea for an adult fantasy brewing for a bit, and I can focus my attention there. Time to change my profile from #amquerying to #amwriting

I've had some other memoir writers suggest re-imagining a chapter as a stand-alone piece to submit to journals, as a way to strengthen your name/platform. Well, today I officially submitted to my first lit mag! Good thing I've gotten used to the response waiting game 🀞

Took more fantasy with me on vacation. Working through The Sword of Kaigen first, which I've seen recommended so many places. It might be the first self-published novel I've read, which I know is just sad. I'm loving how personalities form the nature of their powers β„οΈπŸŒŠ #amreading #booksky #tbr

Taking a break from memoir to tackle my fantasy #tbr pile, starting with The Fifth Season.

Anyone notice interesting overlaps between this and Fourth Wing? Folks who draw from the earth? Rings of death around them? A protective barrier around the empire with weak outposts?

Funny how the end of the semester never feels like it's time to rest -- just time to do more projects I've been neglecting. What's it like to relax without the dread of wasting time?

Ace β€” Angela Chen

On international asexuality day, there's no better book to recommend but Ace by Angela Chen. It's a great introduction to the asexuality spectrum with a variety of experiences everyone, ace and non ace alike, can learn from and feel seen by.

The nasty comments on this lovely, innocent post represent the very thing that inspired me to write my #amquerying memoir unpacking what it means to be ace while existing in a society ✨️like this✨️. Hopefully more awareness leads to more empathy.

Imagine drawing 100 pictures of the exact same thing moving *slightly* to the right. Yet I live for the tedium 😭

Well this might get interesting πŸ‘€ Have my fur babies at my feet, trying to comfort them through the thunder.

For international women's day, I installed a new electrical outlet and garbage disposal, then treated myself to wine and fries while I adored the costume design in The Leopard. If that doesn't capture the multitudes of womanhood, I don't know what does.

Starting my morning sipping coffee and 🫠✨sending queries✨🫠. How is everyone else's query journey going?

Some new games for my Games and Society students, to join with the ever popular Secret Hitler for next week's lesson. Can you see a theme πŸ‘€ I've heard so much about all these games and I'm excited to see them played!

If the "post 1 sentence a day from any project for 20 days" challenge has taught me anything, it's that I'm terrible at consecutive daily tasks

Returning to my long-shelved YA fantasy for the 'one quote a day challenge' has been a fun little field trip down memory lane. My writing style has changed so much after spending the past few years in adult narrative nonfiction land.
