Can we expect NGOs to participate fully in policy debates and implementation without the means to do so? If civil society's contribution to decision making improves outcomes shouldn't we be willing to support it? 70, now 71 MEPs think so.

Ouch: "'She is supposed to work on the defence of the single market. Nothing has been done. She is supposed to work on the financial markets. Nothing has been done, in this field, the result is zero, and that is a tragedy.'
He pauses. "''m severe. I'm cruel. Because I saw it from the inside.'"
Para 21 reads like a criticism of the Trump administration. How else to explain the anti-vaxxers, the swingeing cuts to research, the politicisation of what universities teach, the banning of books in schools.... but then para 22 suggests the authors don't see Trump's US as dysfunctional.🤨
Share your pain, thankfully there's factor 50
And I'm assuming - maybe incorrectly - that those who've gained the right to vote might also tip the balance.
I’m glad Rusbridger brings up the misunderstood question of papal infallibility, but the wording “contrary to some doctrine—the pope is not infallible” might be confusing, as his infallibility is when he professes on doctrine.
Ireland’s Civil War which took place after the Anglo-Irish War doesn’t get a mention… Maybe it contributes to other questions raised in the article.
Good.
Somebody needs to be salvaging this and fast.

Bravo to the people of Hungary! The EU "leaders" should see it as a moment for humility & reflection. Orban acted with almost complete impunity for 16 years, using EU funds to line the pockets of his cronies, while the EU dithered and delayed

💥ICYMI: We have evidence that Orbán’s foreign minister Péter Szijjártó acted on behalf of the Kremlin, making efforts to delist sanctioned Russians. He also talked about doing his best to repeal an EU sanctions package and offered to try to save Russian entities from sanctions. @vsquare.bsky.social
I wonder how much European capitals have considered what their response would be if the US uses nuclear weapons in Iran this week.
The biggest story in the world right now is that the president of the United States is a demented old man who takes pleasure in torturing and killing people and is committing crimes with impunity. And yet most legacy media outlets are too cowardly to tell it like it is.
A delightful piece of science with a 100 year old history, or 2 billion years if you prefer.
Whatever I read next - even if it’s Miffy - I intend to describe as “oneiric and labyrinthine”. Happy Nigella Day to all who celebrate. @nigella.bsky.social
It seems that all problems can be solved by engagement: "At the same time, in the absence of provisions on government procurement, maintained EU-India engagement is necessary to address the challenges European companies are faced with due to localisation policies introduced in recent years."
In particular, provisions on the protection of regulatory data represent the basis for continued EU engagement with India to ensure the implementation of an effective regulatory data protection system that will support an enabling biopharmaceutical innovation ecosystem in India.
Reading EFPIA's response to the EU-India trade agreement, I've read this sentence a few times. It's too long to be included in a post.
EU citizens have the right to cross-border healthcare, but it isn't always easy to navigate the system. MEP Vlad Voiculescu has a plan.

Germany's decisions potentially have a wider impact on other EU countries. EFPIA figures show that a new medicine will reach patients fastest in Germany in 128 days; this compares to a European average of 578 days.
