Excited that our report on 2-stage exams in Computer Science is now published! This is the result of the ITiCSE working group I led in 2025: a very intense year of work with data collection in three countries and six universities with a fantastic group of CS researchers. dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/...

Are you an older adult interested in telling stories? Would you like to tell stories that change people’s minds about what older adults are capable of? Take part in a University of Manitoba research study exploring the effects of creating interactive stories.

Melika and Celine standing together, smiling.
Happy to share that my MSc student Melika Adabinejad successfully defended her thesis today. Melika did a great participatory design project with older adults, conducting 11 focus groups with the same set of participants over a year, co-designing a sound-based interactive art application with them.
Takeaway: Get a CRA RepID if you help out older folks (or anyone) by preparing and filing their taxes. This is available to anyone (not just accountants), so the people you help don't need to share CRA passwords with you! This protects privacy and prevents abuse, and is relatively quick to set up.
Happy to share that our journal article on older adults and tax delegation in Canada is published! See comment for important takeaway about what you should do if you help older adults (or anyone) by doing tax prep and filing for them. www.cambridge.org/core/journal...
Older adults (65+) in Manitoba are invited to come play bingo in our virtual bingo hall as part of our UofM research study on supporting older adult social interaction online. Participants can bring a companion. Interested? Check out the video and study web page: celinelatulipe.net/bingo-online...
We are still looking for 'informal tax helpers' to participate in our research study. Do you know someone in Canada who does taxes for their friends and family members? We'd love to interview them for 30 minutes and give them $15 Cdn in compensation.
graphic design is my passion but here's one to start you off
Expect "election integrity" reform ahead of the 2026 elections and ramping up of manufactured "threats" by Trump and Republicans.
If you think they won't pull off "martial law" as a way of delaying and punting the election, well, you aren't paying attention, friends.
Won’t be long before we learn of an ICE detention center setting up in a former regional hospital
Sorry, no beds for cancer patients, we’ve got to lock up this father of three who works as a roofer.
Fully virtual conferences are accessible to all - sustainable, affordable, equitable, better for folks with caring responsibilities and those unable to travel because of VISA issues. C&C is fully virtual every other year. Come join us!
There are London landmarks, tardis portals, boats that attendees can use to scoot around on the Thames river, and conference rooms named after London tube stations. Help from Cesar Torres on London landmarks and Rocio Von Jungenfeld on the interactive gallery space that looks like Kew Gardens.
ACM Creativity & Cognition is happening online next week in Gather. I am the virtual platform chair and I have spent WAY too many hours building a conference space that evokes London, as the 2026 conference will be in person in London.
This is a research poster with a logo for the University of Manitoba and the HCILab at the top. The title of the poster says: "Do you do taxes for friends and family members? We'd like to talk to you!" There is a QR code that when scanned links to the following URL: https://celinelatulipe.net/cra-older-adults-interview-study/ Under that is text that says: "We are looking for people to participate in an interview study about how informal tax helpers (people who do taxes for friends and family) use technology and online CRA services. Looking for adults (18+) who: Have done taxes for at least 2 different family members or friends in the last 5 years. We are ideally interested in talking to people who have done taxes for older adult (age 65+) friends and family members, but this is not a strict requirement. Participation involves: a single interview that lasts 30 minutes, in person, over the phone, or online via Zoom. Compensation: Receive $15 (CAD) as a thank-you for your time via e-transfer or Tim Hortons gift card. If interested, please contact: Luke Wiebe, Wiebel19@myumanitoba.ca, 431-554-8098 or Principal Investigator Dr. Celine Latulipe celine.latulipe@umanitoba.ca. This research has been approved by the Research Ethics Board at the University of Manitoba, Fort Garry campus. The Research Ethics Board can be reached by phone (204) 474-7122 or email: humanethics@umanitoba.ca"

US HCI folks: do you have students who are looking for a graduate program outside of the US? I'm looking for a PhD student to work on HCI research related to older adults and technology. LGBTQ+ and neuro-divergents welcome. Must have a Master's degree in CS or similar field. PM me for more info.
Great (scary) NYT editorial. I was particularly struck by this quote: "People who’ve spent their lives working within a system of laws and civic institutions may be particularly unsuited to respond to that system’s failure." www.nytimes.com/2025/02/24/o...
I just signed a petition demanding the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry Ban X/Twitter in Canada. Let's prevent Musk from using his platform to interfere in Canadian elections. Join me in signing here: you.leadnow.ca/petitions/ba...
The US is no longer a democracy and does not work to protect democracies. The world is much less safe now for everyone.
