Week 18: The Week After This past week felt a lot different than the one before it. Last week was chaotic, overwhelming, and filled with constant phone calls, decisions, and things that needed to be handled immediately. This week was more about dealing with everything that comes after—and figuring out what life looks like now that things have settled down. Wrapping Things Up A big part of this week was finishing up everything that needed to be handled.

Week 17: A Sudden Goodbye This week took a turn I never expected. It started out fairly ordinary. I was trying to settle back into routine, figure out what to do with SideQuestDeals now that it is live, keep up with job applications, and get through the usual ups and downs that have become normal lately. There were some quiet evenings, too much doomscrolling, some gaming on my Thor, and the usual effort to keep my mood from drifting too far in the wrong direction.

Week 16: Launches, Loneliness, and Moving Forward This week was a bit of a roller coaster. Some big things happened, including a couple of launches that had been a long time coming. At the same time, it was also one of those weeks where emotions, uncertainty, and everyday frustrations all seemed to pile on top of each other. That’s life sometimes, especially during periods of transition. SideQuestDeals…

Week 15: Building My Own Runway This week was a strange mix of frustration, momentum, loneliness, and progress — sometimes all within the same hour. On the health front, I had my follow-up with my cancer doctor. Overall, things are moving in the right direction, but we decided to add a topical treatment to hopefully speed things up. Unfortunately, the timing with insurance couldn’t have been worse.

Week 14: Momentum, Resistance, and Showing Up Anyway This week felt like a perfect snapshot of what rebuilding looks like — not dramatic highs and lows, but a lot of showing up. On the fitness front, I’m officially down 10 pounds. The scale hasn’t moved much past that this week, which is frustrating, but I’ve also increased weights at the gym and kept consistency. Progress isn’t always linear. I’m reminding myself that discipline matters more than daily fluctuations.

Weekly Update #13: Covid But Showing Up Anyway This week wasn’t flashy, but it was meaningful. It started with COVID. After a few days of not feeling great, I tested and confirmed it. That knocked out the gym for a bit and forced me to slow down just as I’d been building momentum. Mentally, that’s always frustrating. But instead of spiraling, I tried to treat it like data: rest when needed, work when I could, and keep moving forward.

Weekly Update: Shipping Momentum, Hard Conversations, and Showing Up Anyway This past week felt like one of those stretches where everything seems to happen at once — progress, setbacks, stress, excitement — sometimes all within the same day. Big Wins (And They Really Are Big) The biggest milestone of the week is that Did I Do That? is officially submitted to the Apple App Store for review. 🎉That means the app is now live on Google Play…

Week 11: Shipping, Setbacks, and Finding Momentum Again This past week was a reminder that progress doesn’t always feel good while it’s happening — but it still counts. There were moments this week that felt heavy: family stress, loneliness creeping in at quiet hours, uncertainty around finances and job prospects, and the emotional toll of watching people I care about struggle. Some days started strong and faded by evening.

Week 10: Momentum, Shipping, and Learning to Ride the Swings A candid weekly look at navigating burnout, rebuilding, and finding my next role. This past week reminded me of something important: Recovery isn’t linear — but progress is still progress, even when emotions swing wildly. Some days felt genuinely good. Some days felt heavy. And some days held both at the same time. But unlike earlier weeks, there’s been a noticeable shift: I’m building again.

Burnout Recovery, Week 9: From Survival Mode to Creative Momentum A candid weekly look at navigating burnout, rebuilding, and finding my next chapter. This past week felt like a quiet turning point. Not because everything suddenly got easier — it didn’t — but because something important shifted. For the first time in a while, I wasn’t just coping with burnout. I was creating again. Building. Shipping. Sharing things with the world.

Inspiration Strikes At Weird Times I went to bed on Thursday night like any other night (perhaps a little later than normal after getting home kind of late from a local astronomical society meeting), but it was definitely not a normal night of sleep.  I slept great until about 2:30am when I had my usual mid-night wakeup to pee.  However, when I tried to go back to sleep, I couldn't.

Week 8: Quiet Progress, Holding Steady, and Learning to Be Okay with “Enough” A candid weekly look at navigating burnout, rebuilding, and finding my next role. This past week didn’t feel dramatic. There were no huge breakthroughs or sweeping changes. Instead, it felt quiet — sometimes heavy, sometimes steady — and full of the kind of progress that’s easy to overlook if you’re only measuring productivity by output. And honestly? That feels like a pretty accurate snapshot of burnout recovery.

Finally Finished The Witcher 3 & DLCs Last night I finally got around to finishing the last of the Witcher 3 Blood and Wine DLC and while I originally wasn't huge on the game in my first attempt at a playthrough, after giving it a more honest attempt, it is easily one of my all time favorite games now! I'll admit, I haven't done much in terms of side quests and contracts so I've still got plenty I can do if I'm bored, but the main quests of the game and both the Heart of Stone and Blood and Wine DLCs have been completed.

Week 7: In Between What Was and What’s Next — and Shipping Something Real A candid weekly look at navigating burnout, rebuilding, and finding my next role. This week didn’t come with a clean sense of momentum or a big emotional breakthrough. Instead, it lived in the middle — between what my life used to look like and what it’s slowly becoming. Some days felt heavy and unmoored. Others felt steady, if quiet. But woven through that uncertainty was something important:

I still need more Android testers for my mobile app! For those that may not have seen my last post, over the last few days, I created a new .NET MAUI mobile application and the Android version of it is officially ready for testing! I've made it easier to join the testers (I need 20 testers to install and use the app for at least 14 days to satisfy Google Play's policies and allow me to publish it to the Play Store) so that I no longer need to collect e-mail addresses to add people to the test, you just have to…

Week 5: Heavy Days, Hard Decisions, and Holding the Line A candid weekly look at navigating burnout, rebuilding, and finding my next role. This week didn’t move in a straight line — emotionally or practically. There were moments of momentum, moments of excitement, moments of deep fatigue, and moments where life simply demanded attention all at once. But if there’s one thing this week reinforced, it’s this: Recovery isn’t about perfect weeks.

This past week reminded me of something I already knew intellectually, but am still learning emotionally: Recovery doesn’t move in a straight line. Some days felt focused and productive. My Observatory Works Again! My New Shot of M33! As of last night, I have my observatory operating back at 100%! Its only been offline for a couple of years. But not not a half bad image of the galaxy M33 for using all new software that I barely know what I'm doing and a new camera.

Week 2: Mapping the Road Ahead — My Burnout Recovery Plan A candid weekly look at navigating burnout, rebuilding, and finding my next role. Last week, I wrote about the shock, relief, confusion, and emotional whiplash that came with losing my job right before Thanksgiving. Dinner Time! Chicken and Sausage Jambalaya! For the first time in probably months, I felt like doing some actual cooking rather than go get take out.  I decided I'd make my amazing chicken and sausage jambalaya. For those who see this picture and want to try to make it for themselves, here is the recipe.

GitHubs Copilot Agent Is Amazing! As I have mentioned in my previous posts, I am working on a mobile app built in .NET MAUI called MoveableEats.  While I'm not quite ready to unveil it and what it is just yet, I thought I would write a quick post about my testing phase of building the app. The app itself is largely done at this point and I'm just going through and finding and fixing bugs.
