I think this is thinking too specific. The special sauce of old Sega and Splatoon is cultural influence. Music, fashion, art, and in general “getting” it.

I’m a bit worried the community is mostly new fans there (which is fine just not beneficial to a post about the GameCube game lol) but any support helps lol

Taking your point one step further, I think the lack of media being counter culture is the perfect time for counter culture media to come back lol

it’s funny because what was counter culture in the late 90s/early 2000s is at least somewhat counter culture right now

so all the old folks at Sega don’t even need to learn anything new, they can just double down on what they know and like best lol

there is nothing wrong with modern Sega (I’d argue there is a ton right about them) but they’ve been a little too safe and insular lately and need to find their counter culture edge again, something Splatoon excels at

I’d even argue the self aware twitter days was that era’s counter culture

I mean this with complete sincerity and without a negative bone in my body but the special sauce of splatoon is what sega used to have and I hope they find it again someday
