Even as a kitten, Waffles was showing the boys who was boss.

Bird bonking time is loud, no doubt.

Okay so it's not an Effin Birds book, but Extremely Accurate Birds is really really good. I'd also recommend The Field Guide Dumb Birds of North America. But also all the Effin Birds merch too.

Mine were never pine siskins and always female house finches.

The number of "pine siskins" who came to my BB feeder. I love the idea of the BB way more than the reality.

I'm sorry Frosty hurt you as a child.

(I'm kidding. I know my view of heat is skewed just as much as yours is of cold.)

In what world is 95 pleasant and 64 unpleasant? Y'all people in the south need to put on a sweater.

This map was clearly made by a southerner. 95 is NOT comfortable (especially in places with any humidity) and 50 can be lovely.

Here it is, your moment of zen. Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt wetland, Maxwell, IA.

(Video of a shallow, winding lake with cardinals, goldfinches, red-winged blackbirds, and blue jays singing while tree sparrows and barn swallows chasing insects on the water's surface.)

I do backpacking sometimes, where weight does matter. I have the kind of quick dry, low odor ones they are talking about.

I STILL pack underwear like I plan to shit myself at least once a day.

I can tell! I have led new birders and I always say to start local and familiar, kniw when and where you are, and notice the general stuff before trying to see the specifics (and try to do it all in once glance before looking away to your guide of choice). 100% going to recommend this book now.

I of COURSE expected Extremely Accurate Birds by @tommysiegel.bsky.social to have the most detailed bird illustrations yet. But I was also impressed by the extremely accurate descriptions AND birding tips. Especially organizing birds by where you'll see them. (For real.)

I'm not a Catholicism expert or even a Catholic. But I'm pretty sure the Pope is supposed to literally be the successor to Jesus's BFF and therefore as close to the final word you're going to get outside a burning bush.

UPDATE: THEY DID NOT FIND MY TEETH

I'm getting an interior car wash primarily because I hope they can find my bottom retainer that flew out of the junk holder I'd placed it in so I could have coffee but then I had to slam on my breaks.

This is the way, always. I tack as hard to left as possible, generally, in primaries; in the general, straight-up lesser of two evils. Never sit out an election, EVER.

I remember watching Twister and being able to tell when they shot the scenes in Iowa because of the grass and the birds.

I did a little LEGO set today and every once in awhile the instructions would pause for a little celebration. This is the energy we need.

And yes I made a little trumpet "ta-da!" noise every time.

One game my then 4 yo refused to do anything unless he was allowed to play as a T-rex. He also vehemently disagreed with the rules of t-ball that say teams take turns hitting the ball.

We gave up organized sports shortly after that.
