Hundreds of families displaced by Israeli air strikes on Gaza, witnesses say At least five people were reported killed in the overnight attacks, as fears of an intensified ground offensive grow.

It would, obviously, be asking too much for our media and political class to care more about the repeated, state-directed criminal massacres of starving civilians in Gaza than what some rappers say at Glastonbury.

Carbon emissions from the 2023 Canadian wildfires - Nature Satellite carbon monoxide observations show that carbon emissions from the 2023 Canadian forest fires are comparable to the annual fossil fuel emissions of large nations.

Canadian fires in 2023 released more carbon than every country but US/China/India.

Driven by "extreme" temps that will be common in 2050s.

Example of how physical climate hazards may exacerbate carbon emissions, in a self-reinforcing loop. Bad.

The big idea: can we predict the climate of the future? We’re pouring money into computer models – but could they lead us astray?

The extent and unexpectedness of the recent climate extremes raises deep epistemological questions about how model based science can contribute to our preparedness for what is to come. David Stainforth explains some of the difficulties with predicting climate here www.theguardian.com/books/2023/o...
