For me, the problem is that the GOP started running candidates in both primaries. They position someone as a "moderate" Dem & give them huge amounts of money. This happened in the 2024 DA race here. So we're looking at the possibility of two Republicans in the general elections going forward..

I read this in the voice of the guy in the Pixies in Vamos and now I’m wondering if my neighbors will notice if I blast me some Surfer Rosa
Burchett is right: the most DC thing ever *is* a member of Congress blaming the city for something he and his colleagues did themselves.
“the a.i. did it” is gonna be the new “the intern did it” in about ten seconds
Washington DC license plate, which says along the bottom, “taxation without representation.”
I’ve lived in DC, and it’s absolute bullshit that voters in South Dakota have more of a say in local governance of DC than do DC residents (Congress routinely overturns laws passed by the DC City Council, but DC doesn’t have full representation in Congress. Hence the DC license plates:
Seems to me like the more people & the more land is ceded to DC, the greater the argument that DC residents should pay no federal taxes whatsoever. DC would have a larger population than 7 states with no representation in Congress. Bad enough now, but to add add half a million more people to that?
This is one of the saddest pieces I’ve read in a long time; brace yourself, it’s devastating
I wish RFK Jr and his MAHA movement would read it (they won’t)

And this changes things in Texas how?
Shout out to the classic #susanalbumparty
R and I need them as well.!
It never fails to sadden me that we as a society will cause even more harm to the elderly and the disabled to ensure that “undesirables” are not allowed even an iota of accommodation, let alone comfort.
Over and above forcing religion into classrooms, the Texas government telling schools *which* version to post is a violation of the establishment clause because they're choosing a specifically Protestant Christian version of the Ten Commandments.
I’d also be interested to see what happens if a teacher posted the variations on the Ten Commandments so students realize the Ten Commandments are, though set in stone, also *not* set in stone.
North Carolina’s session starts today, and H410 has carried over. This bill would direct a study on MAID and is now in the House Rules Committee. Urge lawmakers to move it forward for a public hearing. Take action today: https://tinyurl.com/5crk8m6x #deathwithdignity #medicalaidindying
My understanding, and this could just be urban legend, is they wanted to enforce the day of rest, but because a significant number of dealerships had Jewish owners who observe the Sabbath on Saturdays, the compromise was to say they could only be open one weekend day.
In Texas, car dealerships can be open on either Saturday or Sunday, but not both.
Whataburger, where you can wait in line for 30 minutes and still get a lukewarm burger
(the one near us has definitely gone downhill)
Oh no. I’m so sorry for your loss.
Wait there’s a novel about cacti? Please tell me it’s a romance called The Prickly Pair.
Trickle-down economics worked exactly as intended.
The pre-Reagan tax code.
Big abortion win in PA today - the ban on Medicaid funding is unconstitutional!
AND there's a fundamental right to abortion!
We won!
(Though this Commonwealth Court opinion can be appealed - we'll see what our AG does.)
SCOOP with Elizabeth Williamson: The Onion has a new plan to take over Infowars. It has entered into an agreement to license the Infowars brand and plans to operate it as a comedy site. A Texas judge must approve the deal.

Someone thought this ad was cute. To disabled people and their partners, it’s offensive.
It’s a literal miracle that my R is able to stand, let alone walk. You can be sure that she won’t be wearing Nikes anytime soon.
20. The pervasive intolerance of religious belief in certain circles must be resisted. The elite's intolerance of religious belief is perhaps one of the most telling signs that its political project constitutes a less open intellectual movement than many within it would claim.
This bullet point from Alex Karp/Palantir’s latest diatribe strikes me as the best representation of the whole project.
“The elite’s intolerance of religious beliefs…”
Let me stop you right there, Alex. You just made that up. That isn’t a thing in 2026 America.
Just a thought: How about we stop shaming the poor for buying things that may not be essential, and start shaming the rich for making a profit off things that are essential?
I hate that the US is such a mess now that it’s not unreasonable to question whether this is why the GOP is encouraging vaccine hesitancy and enacting policies that will kill people. If more people live longer, that’s an expensive problem for the government. They want to limit access to this.
Page 1 of a legal Judgment document from the United States District Court, District of Oregon for Case No. 6:25-cv-02409-MTK, filed on 04/18/26. The plaintiffs are listed as "STATE OF OREGON, et al.," and the defendants are "ROBERT F. KENNEDY, JR., in his official capacity as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, et al." The document is from United States District Judge Kasubhai. It outlines that final judgment is entered in favor of the Plaintiffs on Counts I, II, III, and IV. Item 3 states the Court holds unlawful, sets aside, and vacates the "Declaration of the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services RE: Safety, Effectiveness and Professional Standards of Care for Sex-Rejecting Procedures on Children and Adolescents".
Page 2 of a legal judgment document for Case 6:25-cv-02409-MTK, filed on April 18, 2026. The text outlines a court order declaring that defendants lack the authority to unilaterally establish standards of care that supersede professionally recognized standards for gender-affirming care in the Plaintiff States. It permanently enjoins defendants and their agents, including the HHS-OIG, from enforcing the "Kennedy Declaration" against providers in those states. The document is dated April 18, 2026, and is signed by United States District Judge Mustafa T. Kasubhai.
Huge news: the court has entered final judgement in Oregon v Kennedy (HHS trans youth care ban) and has vacated the Kennedy declaration and permanently enjoined its enforcement to target gender clinics.

Breaking: HHS’s ban on gender-affirming care is struck down. Rarely have I read a ruling this sharply worded.
“This case is one of a long list of examples of how a leader’s wanton disregard for the rule of law causes very real harm to very real people.”
