In our most recent episode of @cinemashame.bsky.social, @jamesdavidpatrick.bsky.social and I concluded that--beyond her genius--what makes May standout is how in something like A NEW LEAF, she'll play into the trope of "gorgeous woman who is 'homely' cuz glasses" and never take off the glasses.

It's the day none of you have been waiting for! My epic 150 minute episode of @kennethwreid.bsky.social's TV Guidance Counsellor Podcast is out! Listen as I talk about a surprising amount of shows that starred the cast of NIGHT COURT but weren't actually NIGHT COURT.
One sheet poster for LADY FRANKENSTEIN in which--for no good reason--the title character is presented as a blonde with a beehive hairdo.
One sheet poster for VALENTINA THE VIRGIN WIFE, in which married virgin Edwige Fenich cannot arouse her new husband because of his Oedipus complex. It's a comedy!
Realized I hadn't added to my poster collection since October, so I decided to pick up two @cinemashame.bsky.social watches featuring two CS icons. All of the LADY FRANKENSTEIN posters are fantastic and I want them all but for now I start with the one where she looks NOTHING like Rosalba Neri.
According to @kennethwreid.bsky.social, I have now beat John Sayles for the title of guest who most over-prepared for his TV Guidance Counselor appearance. All I had to do was watch 21 episodes of TV from the week of Dec 23-29, 1993.
Been a while, but a new podcast episode has arrived. It’s a look at a story I’ve always been fascinated by: Did NY Times critic Bosley Crowther get shown the door for his stance against the movie Bonnie and Clyde?

And this is what my lineup looked like.
My first ever trip to the U.S. was when I stayed with Eva in Burbank in 2014. We've lost touch since then but I'm always happy hearing about the good work she's been doing. The news of her assault is not something I wanted to hear today. Please donate if you can.
James and Allan just found out there's a Cinema Shame IMDb page. We have no idea how it came into existence, but Allan is annoyed because he actually has an IMDb profile page (thanks to a past guest of the show) but it's not credited to any of the episodes.
so I'm happy he managed to have a fine career in exactly the kind of roles where you'd cast someone as unique as Bud Cort.
Cort always had a special childlike quality that came across in many of his roles. Though he was nothing like my real dad, I always imagined that if they ever made a movie about my life, he'd get that role (with Kim Darby as my mom). I feel like he was too idiosyncratic to ever hold onto stardom--
Awhile back I got to talk face to face for the first time with Rod Lott, my first American friend. Our reason for the chat was to discuss his first time watch of HAROLD & MAUDE. In it we both marveled at how good But Cort was in his most iconic and defining role.
The Seven Minutes!
HITZ!
Famous actors shilling for lawyers!
Catherine O'Hara!
Saturday! It's disorder in the court with an evening of entertainment featuring courtroom drama! Shorts! Cartoons! Features! Music! TV! And, of course, several works of the late great Catherine O'Hara! Starts at 7 central on 2/7 at app.kosmi.io/room/@dekkop...!
Was thrilled to hear two of my fave Bskyers (and both former @cinemashame.bsky.social guests) talk about TV in the 70s (and 60s). Check out the latest episode of TV Guidance Counselor with @kennethwreid.bsky.social and @mattbaume.bsky.social!
ICYMI, last night I started preparing for our upcoming 1985/1986 @cinemashame.bsky.social Shamedown Battle Royale by live-posting my first time watch of a movie where the hot chick from the Whitesnake music videos falls in love with a "bubble boy" from FAME. It features A LOT of naked Tawny.
If you want to get to know me, listen to @cinemashame.bsky.social. It's very clearly me being 100% me.
Stop scrolling and post two characters who bring you joy.
I'm pretty sure if you made a movie where someone walked up to a random woman in a vehicle, antagonized her, shot her in the face and then called her a "fucking bitch" as her car careened uncontrollably in a residential neighbourhood, they would be the one the hero is fighting against.
Spent last night compiling my @cinemashame.bsky.social Shamelies nominations/winners and here are my stats:
Total Nominees - 15
2 films had 8 nominations each
4 had multiple noms in one category
1 had noms in 7 out of the 8 categories (technically a full run cuz screenplay categories)
After discovering what a terrible year 1965 was for movies in our recent @cinemashame.bsky.social episode, it's legit shocking how many good films came out just a year later--and my favourite is still the one where Adam West can't get rid of a bomb.
Once again, I am thankful to all of you who have reached out with kind words about my work in Star Wars and in The Life of Chuck. It is not mere humility when I tell you I'm not the man you think I am.
*On the upcoming episode of @cinemashame.bsky.social where @jamesdavidpatrick.bsky.social and I are joined by @dandelgado.bsky.social for our first time viewing of THE SANTA CLAUSE 3: THE ESCAPE CLAUSE.
For Tim Allen reasons, we talked about* his remake of THE SHAGGY DOG and how it's a perfect example of how fretting about remakes is absurd because we had all forgotten it existed until we looked at his IMDb today. Meanwhile, I just checked Disney+ and it's not on there. But the original movie is.
Album cover for "Virgin" by Lorde
5. Lorde “Virgin” Lorde has been cursed with the fact that her second and best album both undersold and is the greatest pop album to be released this century, which has made its two follow ups seem like disappointments despite them both having moments as good or even better than the first album that made her a star. If anything, “Virgin”’s main issue is its brevity. At 35 minutes, it’s over too soon and too abruptly. But that’s a good problem. It’s better to make us want more than over stay your welcome. Like “Solar Power” before it, it takes a few listens to fully embrace, but once you understand what Ella is trying to do, you can’t help but love and admire how she does it (and the fact that she even exists in the first place).
Because no one asked, here's my Top 5 Albums of 2025.
5. Lorde "Virgin"
I’m confident that this is the only podcast to discuss Elvis Presley in TICKLE ME and Orson Welles’ CHIMES AT MIDNIGHT within the same hour. That's why you should listen to @cinemashame.bsky.social. If I’m wrong, I want the name of the podcast that beat us. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/c...
It’s hard to believe that I’m taking notes about THE SANTA CLAUSE 3: THE ESCAPE CLAUSE (2006) for the annual @cinemashame.bsky.social holiday episode with @dandelgado.bsky.social. In what world does this movie require so much fucking attention?
But you know what? I wouldn’t have it any other way.
One sheet poster for THE SANTA CLAUSE 3: THE ESCAPE CLAUSE
At the end of last year's @cinemashame.bsky.social holiday episode with @dandelgado.bsky.social, I joked we should do THE SANTA CLAUSE 3 next, even though I've never seen the other two films. Fast forward to tonight and I actually have to watch it. Don't make jokes, kids. They can catch up on you.
In our long-long-(long-long-long)-awaited 1965 Shamedown you will hear me:
1. Admit most of my Top 5 is unjustifiable
2. Share my thoughts on BDSM enthusiasts
3. Talk about a movie about The Beatles that features no Beatles but does include The Beach Boys
4. Compare Orson Welles to Maria Bava
Well, @cinemashame.bsky.social was declared a Top 100 movie podcast by some such website, and normally I ignore such emails, but friends and former Shame guests from @purecinemapod.bsky.social and @ticklishbiz.bsky.social also both appear on the list — so, let’s celebrate for the sake of celebrating
8 years ago, I did a whole series of "Sad Grown-Up Kevin McCallister" tweets and no one else liked them but I still think they rank among the best things I've ever written.
