Good morning! It's a beautiful day and I've reopened to queries!
Posts by Vivian Nisinman | Crime Thriller Author
Ahhhhhh I excitedly submitted this morning :) I hope you enjoy going through all the queries!!
530 words done this morning! Took a little longer that I’d like but it was a fun scene (FMC realizes something is very wrong within her body, as is in her surrounds)
488 words done this morning for my crime thriller!! Took a little longer this morning as I got sidetracked by some other fun stuff, but I still got my words done!
The words aren’t perfect, but it’s a first draft and all they’re meant to do is get my thoughts out. Proud of myself
Another 625 words done in my thriller first draft!
It’s early and I have a meeting at 8 and I didn’t sleep as much as I’d wanted to but I decided to just start with 100 words while my water boiled. Now we’re here and I’ve finished my daily goal!
So exciting!!!!
Hey querying writers, check out my bio for a fun update 👀
So. I’m actually enjoying line editing my thriller? Even though this is after rewriting the whole book once, and about 2 full rounds and 4 half rounds of developmental edits, a couple other read throughs. So let’s call this draft 8?
It’s fun to see writing as playful and constantly learning.
Not writing 500 new words today
Refining the first five pages of THE HUMMINGBIRD HARBINGER. Using this opportunity to turn a query rejection into a new submission. The editing never ends but it’s fun to continue to find new ways to improve myself as a writer. Line editing here we go!
I recommend tucking your phone away every evening. I watched half of a show while eating dinner and hanging with my partner. Now I’m reading through some of a self editing book. Then I’ll listen to a mindset video. Capping it off with reading a good book. What a lovely evening!
I wrote 560 words this morning before the day job! It lifts such a huge weight off my shoulders for the rest of the day when I focus on myself and my dreams every morning
Agent’s guide to THE HUMMINGBIRD HARBINGER
🔪husband and wife cat and mouse game
🔪job burnout
🔪truths vs secrets
🔪st@lker and toxic friendships
It’s fun coming back on here and seeing that my last post was of gratitude for my editor.
Now I’m in the query trenches for my MR AND MRS SMITH meets GONE GIRL thriller and I’m so so excited for an agent to love is as much as I do
I’m curious what you think when you get around to it! I’m only 30% in so I hope it wraps up well
I’ve started The Whisper Man and I’m hooked!!
When you asked the universe to help you manifest a 6 figure book deal so you sign with an editor who is really making you work for it
Thank you editor, though, for spending so many hours on this and sending me a super thorough 21 page manuscript assessment, along with 2 hour long consultations.
I’m finally working on my newsletter and I’m actually so excited to just babble to you all and update you on writing and reading. Why haven’t I been serious about my newsletter before? #authorsky
I want to be only on the author and books part of this app. I’m here for an escape, not to watch the world burn 😭. #authorsky #booksky
There’s a momentum that comes from just doing the thing. I had been waiting for a couple months as I tested, studied, let my idea form, and waited for edits from book 1. I feel so energized from just putting 8 plot points in my wall yesterday for book 2!! #authorsky
Why does a small mistake or oversight (I mean like 200 count) at work cause severe anxiety and me thinking everyone hates me? This is why I can’t wait to just write full time but also why I’m terrified to write full time and leave my 9 to 5. #authorsky
So while I could be upset (and trust me, the anxiety is still very much there), I know that this time around I will be wowed by her diligence again. She’s already let me know that she’s done manuscript level comments which she usually doesn’t do for the level of edit I had signed up for. (4/4)
The first dev edit, she was a couple months late, but I received a 36 page editorial letter from her, 4 free 1 hr consultations with her AND piece by piece dev edits. I had sent her the first half and the first 3/4 an add’l time. Each consultation resulted in a long list of well thought out hw (3/4)
I’ve worked with her for 2 years and she is as invested in this story as I am. She’s even said “thank you” to ME for the care I’m putting into this. And from my experience with her, I know she often times takes longer, but she always over delivers (2/4)
So my editor is a month and a week late on delivering dev edits, and while I could be upset, I’m actually grateful. (1/4) #amediting
Yes!!!! I love limiting it to specific time frames. Otherwise we keep scrolling and checking our views/likes when we should be living and creating
Fully recommending spending your weekends largely off social media. Minimal scrolling, minimal (if any) posting. Living the weekend has been helping me rest, ease my mental health, and prep for creativity needed to plot book 2. #author
In my debut, I address themes I have deeply experienced and wanted to explore through my characters: relationships, happiness in careers, friendships, wearing figurative masks.
And it wouldn’t be a thriller without a fun twist. I pride myself on this story playing a twist on you, the reader.
I love these thrillers so much because they are intriguing yet realistic and keep you guessing without unnecessary cliff hangers:
Fight Club
Broken Harbor
The Silence Of The Lambs
The Silent Patient
All The Colors Of The Dark
You
Yellowface
I’m Thinking Of Ending Things
