Marazon, by Nevil Shute. Written in 1926 it's now 100 years old. It was his first published novel, written (he notes in the authors note in my 1965 reprint) when he was helping design the R100 airship. He says he rewrote it three times in its entirety over 18 months and sold 1200 copies at the time.
