maybe? it’s definitely the end of the band being world-conquerers even if they are doing really great with their touring and recent album. as much as i like the new record it doesn’t have anything as big as their hits from 2013-15. the story may have changed if mania was any kind of marketable

10 times out of 10 when i listen to a shoegaze album that’s come out in the past 15 years that isn’t at that mountaintop i either go “this is pretty good” or “this is boring” and never think about it again. there are notable exceptions but they’re like immediately added to the top of the mountain
