Charlie Kirk’s Legacy Deserves No Mourning The white Christian nationalist provocateur wasn’t a promoter of civil discourse. He preached hate, bigotry, and division

The Nation pulls NO punches, from @espiers.bsky.social

"There's no requirement to take part in this whitewashing campaign. Refusing to join in doesn’t make anyone a bad person. It’s a choice to write an obituary that begins “Joseph Goebbels was a gifted marketer and loving father to six children.”

I'm just commenting to see who else gets mentioned. I love @jayhulmepoet.bsky.social though - he's inspired me in my own febrile attempts!

I've certainly seen some very good stuff from @scholarpriest.bsky.social too if you've not come across him?

I think I will be re-reading this for some time to come.

It is good, important work.

Who Goes Nazi?, by Dorothy Thompson

Read, reread, reread. It will hit differently again today, and next week, and next month.

If your Christianity causes you to be offended by someone asking the most powerful person in the country to be merciful towards the powerless, then you have profoundly misunderstood the teachings of Jesus Christ.

A carving of a man being burned at the stake with the caption "lord open the king of England's eyes"

A carving of a man being burned at the stake with the caption "lord open the king of England's eyes"

I will note that pulpit from which the Bishop gave her sermon is not only the one from which Martin Luther King Jr gave his last sermon on the Sunday before he was killed, it also contains a panel of a man being martyred, paired with an exhortation for God to open the eyes of a tyrannical leader.

Yes. Let's talk about that rather than a nazi salute. #deadcat

Am sure many are replying with the same, but the last few days have also been the catalyst for me. Maybe it's just who I've chosen to follow, but this place is already infinitely better (albeit smaller)
