For my @xtramagazine.com column this month, I wrote about the simultaneous mainstream media erasure of Renee Good's queerness and the right wing amplification of it as a post hoc justification for her murder. xtramagazine.com/power/activi...

Screenshot of white text on grey background reading: “War in Venezuela is not a tool for distracting the American public. This administration has wanted to return global politics to a early-20th century model of dictators and expanding empires. It’s a return to the colonialist empire building project. The consequences of these actions—kidnapping a president, occupying a foreign country—will reach far beyond the fate of Maduro. “
My two cents, from Saint Paul, far from the real world consequences of our new war.
Hey look, my piece made the list!
if the mta sold F/M swap merch they'd be funded for the next decade
Only an academic texts a friend: "sorry running behind, I got distracted by an idea."
Sure, looks like I've got access!
“But say the existing research were showing something very different—perhaps even overwhelming evidence that trans women are unfairly more physically gifted in most ways than their cis peers. I don’t know why that’d be grounds to keep them out of women’s sports, where they so clearly belong.”
"Luke portrays Jesus as radically forgiving as a way of affirming Jesus’s power in the terms of Roman imperialism. Jesus forgives like an emperor; Luke’s Christianity aligns with the goals of empire."
I wrote a Lectionary Reflection (and 🔥🔥 🔥 liturgy!) for @presoutlook.bsky.social on Luke 23:33-43!
Reign of Christ — November 23, 2025
On Reign of Christ Sunday, Luke 23 presses us to confront how empire shapes our theology — and how the church can resist it, writes Jimmy Hoke.

Who do they think is doing the work 🙄
OMG THIS IS THE BEST CAMPAIGN VIDEO I'VE SEEN. Vote for @dewayneforminneapolis.com! #minneapolis #mayor
My FB Comment screenshot: "this is false fear mongering, and continue to reduce Ward 10 to Uptown and completely ignore the other neighborhoods in Ward 10. Aisha has a proven track record of advocating first for her residents--all of us. She has fought for rent control and other measures that would make housing more affordable in one of the most dense areas of the city. Even if it were true that "affordable housing" was just a slogan for Chughtai, that is still better than Millard, who consistently only speaks to and for homeowners and refuses to acknowledge the reality of renters in this city. Millard's focus on Uptown makes clear her constituents are the business owners who don't live here. Her campaign donations and the outside groups pouring funds into getting her elected come in large droves from landlords who are fighting to make sure they can profit off Ward 10 without a care for the people who actually live here (https://www.lydiamillard.com/). They are trying to buy a city council seat by completely ignoring the lives of those of us who live here. If you care about Ward 10, the vote is clear: Aisha Chughtai has our backs."
@wecandobettermpls.bsky.social pays to promote anti-Chughtai posts on FB to reach out to residents and voters of Ward 10 like me. I made this comment to engage them in democratic debate. They deleted it.
How are you doing better by suppressing free speech of Ward 10 residents?

I'm also discussing this with Senior Pastor Scott Jones and Assoc Pastor Julia Carlson for adult ed after worship at House of Hope on Sunday!
Losing Lagos Tacos--and many other great restaurants over the years--sucks but, like, that tends to be the restaurant biz anywhere. You can't tell me that the Ward that includes Eat Street does not have plenty of incredible places to eat, brand new and ones that have been around.
All the talk about lost businesses is uptown shows how the people talking about it don't live in my ward. They're sad they can't drop in like tourists and go to the same restaurant every visit. They don't care that I can no longer walk to get my diabetes medications because they don't live here.
My pancreas.
This is the first political ad I have ever seen that recognizes transgender voters, understands we are human, and asks for our support.
It’s remarkable.
As always, @katelynburns.com is on fire, saying what needs to be said, over and over again, with receipts.
"...The right has already proven themselves to be operating in bad faith on these issues. ... Compromise isn't possible here. I'm running out of ways to explain this to all the good liberals."
I'm so glad you said this, because about 30 seconds ago, I published a newsletter piece detailing how conservatives have dump-trucked through all of the previously established common sense, nuanced, compromise positions on trans rights to get here: burns-notice.ghost.io/what-would-t...
There are a lot of compelling reasons why I think folks should rank Dr. DeWayne Davis on their ballots in Minneapolis - but that goes doubly for LGBTQ+ folks and those who love us. 🌈
For my Burns Notice newsletter, I wrote about what it was like being a trans person and see the entire right wing try to incite pogrom on us over the last several weeks. burns-notice.ghost.io/what-am-i-su...
Maybe “No God” by Sam Smith?, it’s one I break out when I’m generally pissed at fuckboys.
Also boooooo
Everyone’s words recently: “We need to do things to deescalate political violence.”
If, in your actions, you capitulate to threats of violence, all you do is teach right-wing extremists that they should continue to threaten violence—which will eventually become real—because it helps them win.
“No Kings” should include Jesus
Jimmy Hoke reflects on the "No Kings" protests and considers how progressive Christians might imagine Jesus beyond kingship — as part of a democratic movement.

A thread of all the elected Democrats who've put out statements of support for trans people this week as Republicans manufacture a genocide: 🧵
I'm trying to decide if this is worse or better than the presentation I sat through on the biblical principles behind marketing by a brand consultant that the session hired (at the church I worked for in NJ).
🤦🤦🤦
And to those who would use this tragedy to attack our trans neighbors, shame on you. We must stand united against hate in all its forms and ensure that every Minnesota child, family, and community never again experiences the grief we’re all feeling in the wake of this shooting.
