No I'm genuinely curious. I can think of plenty of totalitarian government dystopias and a few utopia gone wrong dystopias and of course "technology made everyone useless" dystopias but no "society broke down because everything was a scam" dystopias which seems to be the way it's going

I don't know what inclines people to post these things. Why generate a fake version of an image that almost certainly exists for real? I don't understand

I wonder if anyone has written a book about what happens when everything is a scam

This is a fake image though.

One giveaway, for example, is that the Gulf of Suez doesn't connect directly to the Mediterranean in real life. Otherwise the Ever Given would have needed to be a 20 mile long ship to block the Suez canal

Are you trying to tell me the suez canal isn't the full width of the Gulf of Suez all the way to the Mediterranean? I could have sworn the Ever Given was 20 miles long.

"scour" is an incredible way to describe reading a post with 15 words before uploading it

Feels kinda silly to say that rich people from the center to left of things politically can’t build a successful media environment when the onion is doing it basically using donations from semi-employed forum goblins

I’ve gone from “huh?” to “tear the whole damn mf down” on this issue in under four years

"we won't give the kids anything to do independently and when they find something we run them over with our cars. Why this is their fault. More at 11"

When I say "neighborhood character" that's actually what I'm talking about

RE: the age of housing in Providence; IIRC, Elorza’s housing plan had a survey that said that there were still inhabited units without indoor plumbing.

A related point I like to make: The act of riding a bike is inherently very safe. The danger comes from cars.

Yeah I've got a bunch of shoots rooting right now but I still haven't cracked overwintering :(

I was so close this year. Still green in February but just barely didn't make it

Thyme is just such a cute little ground cover

I love rosemary but I've had no success with overwintering. Did yours overwinter?

In a non car-brained world, the fact that elite cyclists are regularly hit, and often killed, by drivers should lead some of the victim blaming people out there to question what they're saying. You can do everything right and still die.

$402 million upgrade of New Haven's train station will expand platforms, add atrium & canopy The atrium and canopy would protect travelers from the elements but allow light in through extensive windows, skylights & a glass end enclosure

Admittedly did not have "CTDOT wants to put a full canopy over New Haven Union Station" on my bingo card. Feels like more of a nice to have than a necessity, but I'm open to being won over.

Yeah fuck that guy

Given the sheer volume of other stuff I'd like to see I do wonder if we could use this money to make a less already awesome station a little more usable.

New London needs a lot of help for accessibility for example

I've never had an issue with the existing platform canopies as far as rain goes.

Man, now I can play my Game Boy games on a tiny, black and white, portable screen. If you had told me I'd be doing this 30 years ago. I never would have believed you.

Unprecedented times when a city has the gall to level taxes on structures benefiting from municipal services

Somehow the proposition of "you will literally use 7x less of this expensive fungicide" was still not enough to overcome the anxiety. I have to imagine the fertilizer business is the same

Hey @sarahtaber.bsky.social have you done a thread on risk-averse decision making and "spray and pray" practices cause I was a disease guy not a nutrition guy but so often I would argue till my face was red trying to get growers off calendar spraying and onto more precision spraying
