i wrote a piece of music about what happens when you interact with this woman of stone in about an hour

the music that plays when nothing is happening is the most important music in your game. it's on for hours. it becomes the world itself
Having a strong regional identity for different regions and peoples of a game, probably even more than having it match the biome. If the music for various cities and places could be swapped without anyone noticing, maybe it should be more distinctive, weird or some defining factor
Eric Heberling, not the other guy btw
i just secured an internship with the elder scrolls series' original composer :)

Ive been working on a soundtrack concept for the Elder Scrolls VI for half a year now, itll come out in 2 days
worldbuilding is so overrated. if a story has great characters and character arcs, i'll take the shittiest worldbuilding you can give me. idgaf about lore if it doesn't make me care about your characters
i love worldbuilding and this is so real. way too much happening in the background and an emotionally unmoving story will kill a story no matter how realistically detailed the planet is, or how scientifically systematic the magic system is
what a beautiful kitty! i hope he recovers well
more fantasy music should borrow from jazz, not for complexity, nor in a surface-level way, but because theres colors in jazz and the blues that just havent been explored yet by rpgs
i wanna be friends with the mick on discord
not to brag but i did this in my head when i was 9
i do love a good open world game though
with the advent of open world games, there was a reversal where the world was huge, but everything in it is so literal it doesnt strike the imagination as much
one of the miracles of old games is how little they told you and how big that became in your mind
a few notes of music, some pixels of a foggy coastline, and your imagination was doing most of the worldbuilding
pixel souls demastered is pretty cool! heres an edit i made to my arrangement of a dungeon theme from daggerfall
this artist @chirunax.bsky.social, inspired me to write some music about the dichotomy between these two pieces, written in about 1.5 hours
Artists, show your range ✨
early 3D rpg music really said “you are alone in a world that barely renders correctly” and somehow that hit the same a full orchestra
ive started a project reorchestrating daggerfall themes as if they were in later elder scrolls games like morrowind and skyrim. some specific songs have gotten a lot of traction but you can check out the full suite here:
