Silas horse is sporting a fluffy winter coat, and sitting calmly in the snow. His small glowing horn peers out from under his long forelock. Obyn horse stands fierce and proud, some sort of furry draft unicorn. He glares at an unseen foe before him. In the middle of the canvas three horrible and terrible evil things float about: a RED bag, a YELLOW bag, and a PURPLE bag!!!

i got my first grown up american jury duty summons in early January, and it unlocked a childhood memory about my dad getting one. i misunderstood my moms explanation of the situation, and thought the jury would be ruling on my dad, NOT that he was being summoned to maybe be on the jury. (1/2)

Panel 1: Laurel and Rowan are checking the mail. Rowan clutches Laurels key rings, having just had the honor of being the one to unlock and re-lock their mailbox. Laurel flips through its contents, finding mostly the usual junk, until she pauses at a small but important looking card. It's a jury duty summons for her wife, Diana. Rowan doesn't know what that is, but he realizes this is odd. Laurel: Hmm. Nothing. Bah. Not important. Oh. Laurel: Your mommy got a jury duty summons. 2: The two have gotten back in the car. Rowan is in the backseat, safely secured and holding a beloved green dinosaur toy. Rowan: What's jury duty? Laurel: Uhh... Let me make this turn. 3: Laurel attempts to answer Rowan's question, but she's busy driving and doesn't exactly understand it herself! As he listens to her explanation, Rowan's confusion quickly evolves into alarm. Laurel: It's uuhhh. It's when a bunch of people work together to decide if someone did a crime. Laurel: They decide if they're guilty or not. Laurel: Mommy has to go to court for it. 4: Rowan is entirely focused on this new jury duty problem now. He drops his toy as he whispers a new question. Rowan (loud whisper): Is that bad? 5: Laurel is distracted by driving, a task she does not enjoy at all. She doesn't realize Rowan is getting upset. Laurel: HUFF. Kind of. Laurel (thinking): Need to focus. - The car behind me is too close. I hate them. I have Rowan in the car! - Diana could explain it better. - It's annoying that she has to do it. - Do they pay people for jury duty? - Law stuff is confusing. 6: Rowan is fully panicking now, imagining a future in which his Mommy (Diana) is falsely accused of being GUILTY and locked up in jail forever and ever and ever and ever! And he and his Mama (Laurel) are sad forever and he never sees her again ever even when hes an old man! This is a truly dire situation. Imaginary jury: GUILTY!! Imaginary Diana: But I'm not! Imaginary old man Rowan: And I NEVER saw my Mommy again.

SFX: KRRT Panel 2: Obyn's vine continues to grow upwards, surpassing his own height. He clicks his tongue and looks into the distance. SFX: KRRT KRT Obyn: TCH. Panels 3-5: Obyn squints into the blizzard swirling around him, searching for someone. After a moment he sees the debris of a downed MOAB in the distance, marked by a makeshift red flag. Obyn (thinking): Where are you? Obyn: Ah, good. Panel 6:: Obyn leans over the carcass of the MOAB, speaking to someone inside. It has become partially buried in snow thanks to the harsh weather. Obyn: That was foolish of you. Obyn: And reckless. Panel 7: The camera turns around to show Gwendolin huddling in her makeshift MOAB shelter. She's tired, and visibly cold despite her winter gear. I was really patting myself on the back for being so prepared for the building to be cold. I was so ready to have a nice comfy day.

Fortunately extra layers can be removed, and I wasn't under a vent the whole time.
