That coastal highway in Oahu is one of my favorite places on the planet
You are the BEST! Thanks for this
Followup: did the show, played great, was a total rock star.
I didn’t appreciate before how nervous the singer was. Thinking about the friction between us as being about me was self-centered.
Or just replace as many non-sex words as possible with sex words.
This week I have been shedding a scale I didn’t master in my student days. That weakness has been dogging me in subtle ways ever since.
Facing up and going back to basics has been great for my playing! My chops are on fire from all the grunt work.
But here’s the thing - failing in advance has freed me to play well. Practicing at home, I have found creative angles that are going to make the show successful on an artistic level. I won’t get another gig out of it but this one is going to be good.
I knew I was stinking and became pushy. Predictably, she bristled, and when I was driving home I knew this thing was going to be one and done.
For a variety of reasons and no reason I sucked. I made beginner mistakes. My musical ideas were trivial and badly executed. I overplayed. I brought an instrument that was in bad shape - no resonance, intonation bad, the wrong sound for the material.
I got a little gig backing up this singer who I’ve played in pickup bands with. We’ve always gotten along. I went to her house for a practice.
I’ve always been too weak to take on Giant Steps. It’s like training for an ultramarathon - I could but do I want to?

That’s an amazing find. Thanks for it.
Diaperland ain’t no joke, man. You’ll have Dan Zanes in your ears by the time you get out and will hear Kangaroo instead of Kanga Roo.
I’d love to do that song. It’s incredibly emotional.
Sister Lovers is on my list too
I love 11s or even 12s for bottleneck, but they give me hand pain.
What's your usual gauge? Do you play bottleneck much?
Or put them out of tune with those meaty paws, even when you’re not trying to bend.
Seen this WTF Beato thing on string gauge?

You seem like you’re pretty far along. Why stop now?

The Department of Homeland Security is not a church. Using an official government account to broadcast Christian scripture is a blatant violation of the Establishment Clause and a clear wink to Christian nationalism. #holdfast
A lost story by Beatrix Potter has surfaced
Robert Quine is one of my guitar heroes. I still think about his playing.
One of the best live bands I’ve ever seen
Ah hah! That goes to a weakness of mine with diminished chords - I usually stick to chord tones. I need to grow into whole-half diminished for this situation.
I’ll play through this when I get back to an instrument. Thanks for the tip.
A question for my fellow jazzholes. See that F diminished in the 6th bar? There’s an E natural note in the melody. WTH? That is about as far from a chord tone. as you can get.
I checked a couple different transcriptions to verify that this is how people play it. And the melody is not wrong.

But as they say in the documentary, it was the addition of Anthony Kiedis that made their little scene blow way up. He was the missing ingredient in Anthem and What Is This, and even (very arguably) Fear.
I’m no Anthony fan! He bugs me for sure.
