Proud to share our latest preprint! We demonstrate that targeting the immune checkpoint GD3 with a short mid-life treatment leads to long-lasting health benefits (>1 year after treatment cessation). Kudos to @irynamoskalevska.bsky.social, to the ISAC team and collaborators @ircan.bsky.social

Deeply honored by this News & Views! doi.org/10.1038/s435...
Huge thanks to @Krizhanovsky, @Mejewska and @NatureAging.bsky.social for highlighting our paper rdcu.be/d6wko

Study shows that senescent cells literally sugar-coat themselves to avoid recognition and clearance by the immune system.

This paper, coupled with the Perspective from Neuron, really indicates that our understanding of the immune system on an aging brain could well be entering a new phase - one with lots of great data rather than mainly conjecture.

7/7 This work was made possible thanks to the support of @ImpetusGrants, @AgenceRecherche.bsky.social, @CNRSbiologie.bsky.social, @CNRS_DR20, @Inserm.bsky.social, @insermpacacorse, @univ-cotedazur, #AgeMed_Inserm, @IHU-RespirERA.bsky.social, @Institut_cancer and @CancerpolePACA. Thank you so much!!
6/7 We are deeply grateful to Professor Eric Gilson for his unfailing support from the very beginning of this adventure. His advice has been crucial in making this project what it is today.
5/7 A huge thank you to all collaborators that contributes to this work at @ircaninstitute and beyond (@CRCL_Lyon, @MC_Michallet, @LP2M_Lab, @IPMC_Sophia, IRMB, @C3M_U1065, @umr8576, TIRO_lab) for their invaluable contributions.
4/7 By targeting GD3 with immunotherapy in mice, we demonstrated reduced fibrosis (lung, liver) and osteoporosis. These findings open exciting therapeutic avenues for combating aging and its associated diseases.
3/7 SICs are a novel mechanism that allows senescent cells to escape immune clearance by NK cells. GD3 acts as an "invisibility cloak," enabling these cells to persist, to be “tolerated” by immune system and contribute to age-related diseases.
2/7 Huge congratulations to @IltisCharlene and @IrynaMoskaleva.bsky.social, the incredible co-first authors of this work. You worked so hard for this! Nice present for Christmas!
1/7 Excited to share our team’s first paper revealing how senescent cells use the GD3 ganglioside as a Senescence Immune Checkpoints (SICs) to bypass immune surveillance published in @NatureAging! rdcu.be/d4XXJ
What an incredible year! 🎉🚀 Huge thanks to my amazing team and collaborators! New talent, new lab under construction (moving in Jan 2025!), fantastic meetings (Chile, Shanghai) & paper accepted in @NatureAging (stay tuned!). Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and an even more amazing 2025! 🎄✨
