Oh, is it Meatgrinder weekend already?

There you go. Now imagine waiting for almost three years to see the next season, which ends tonight! /12

Mark helps Devon find the baby only to finally see a picture of Gemm and shout “she’s alive!” right as Milchick busts through the door and tackles Dylan. “Fuck you, Mr. Milchick” indeed. But those glasses never did slip off! They really hung in there. /11

Cobel gets to the gala in time to try to stop Helly from telling everyone the truth, but fails to keep her from going on. Watching Natalie’s face drop after she and the audience realize it’s not a joke, and Helly says they are prisoners on the severed floor. /10

Irv’s story is a lot more sparse. His father was in the Navy, and his outie has been tracking Lumon employees. Irv sees Burt’s address and hightails it over there, forgetting everything just like he did on the inside. He only gets are far as pounding on the door. /9

Mark finally connects with Devon and tells her everything, but ope Mark called Selvig “Ms. Cobel” so she knows and alerts Milchick (sans suit jacket) to stop Dylan. “I bet the tempers were disappointed”. He promises Dylan a coffee cozy, all while he saws at the belt holding the door shut. /8

Apparently the prototype chip had blue and green lights, which eerily match Helena’s party dress. (Is that why those colors are all over the severed floor?) Man, Jame is a creep. /7

Helly’s outie has undergone severance as a publicity stunt for Lumon, hence all the photos Milchick has been taking, and the entire party is for this “story”. Before she can get her bearings she meets “Dad”: CEO Jame Eagan, looking every bit as stiff as his statue in the perpetuity wing. /6

Mark gets a chance to fanboy at Ricken for his book. You might notice he didn’t follow along in the reading because he knew it already. Ricken, for his part is sure Mark is punking him with his effusive praise. And OF COURSE before Mark can see a picture of his wife Balf calls Ricken away… /5

Rebeck (with whom Mark must share a book since he forgot his) mentions the sores on the back of her head from her bird, but people have theorized ever since that she was severed without her knowledge, because that’s where the chip was (recently?) implanted. /4

Innie Mark is SUCH a fish out of water. To be fair, a party thrown in Ricken’s honor is a pretty weird place to be. He assumes Devon is his wife and her baby is his. It’s cute; but once he finds out she’s his sister he’s just thrilled. Poor guy keeps getting put off, though. /3

Oh my gosh! Helly R is Helena Eagan? Of the Lumon Eagans?? 😱

Sorry, had to get that out of my system.

Helly is introduced to Gabby (Arteta) by Natalie, who doesn’t have the Board in her ear for once. But what are they grateful for Helena doing…? 🤔 /2

What follows is one of the most stressful episodes of television I’ve seen this side of the Season 2 finale of Dexter. Can you handle it? Will Dylan’s glasses hang in there? Only one way to find out. /end

The finale of Severance Season 1, Episode 9 “The We We Are” opens with all of MDR sans Dylan waking up on their precarious outie situations. I bet we want to know what Helly’s outie is up to in particular, since all our interactions with her so far have been terse and occasionally dehumanizing. 🧵/1

It’s all so tense!! Irv has been painting the black hallway (how does he know about it??), Mark is WITH Selvig at the party (who tells him to het away from Lumon), and Helly is… at a fancy party? (???) Dylan triggers the OTC. Credits. /26

Dylan has been toting around his gift from Milchick this whole time. It’s a 3D glass laser printing of their group photo, which is so dang sweet — but not a prop to help with the OTC. He also ties up the security doors with his belt (which explains his obsession with it in season 2). /25

The trend of parallel episodes across seasons sharing commonalities continues! Mark tells Selvig at the party (Ricken’s, for his book, not Devon’s, sorry!) that “work is just work” — the same thing he says to Milchick (sans suit jacket) in the penultimate episode of season 2. /24

I forgot that Cobel smashes her Kier shrine at home, AND that Mark checks to see if she’s coming to Devon’s party where she gives no pretense of switching out of “Cobel mode”, and Mark just brushes it off. (She’s the kooky neighbor, after all.) The way she laughs too hard at his funeral joke… 😆 /23

(The ram being one of the four tempers PROBABLY explains the goats, but we don’t know how yet. Frolic…?) /22

There’s a flail with the nine core principles, and the dancers are all representations of the four tempers. NONE of this is explained in the episode, and that only adds to the absolutely weirdness. Only one named so far is Woe, the bride, who we see in season 2. /21

Never noticed before that the waffle party is held in the replica of Kier’s house in the perpetuity wing. Oh, there are waffles, but there is also a Kier mask at “the Founder’s bed”. Is that why no one is supposed to touch it…? /20

Forgot to mention in the middle of all this, Milchick has to be the one who sees Cobel from the severed floor. “Off you go, then.” Oof. He’s also clearly not happy about it. /19

Mark’s one last look around the elevator room turns out to be a prescient moment — it really never will be the same after this. /18

1 year ago 0 0 1 0

All episode you could cut the sexual tension between Helly and Mark with a knife, so that kiss before they head off to the elevator to possibly never wake up again? 🔥 🔥 🔥 /17

It’s probably no mistake that the Lumon compliance handbooks (stowed below a picture of Kier) are laid out and sound like Bible passages. Irv looking like Kier probably IS a coincidence, though, since his outie chooses his hair, dress and mustache. No blue eyes, though. /16

(Also worth noting that NO ONE has really seemed to care that much that Graner is full-on dead, and only Cobel herself has mentioned it twice. So it’s wild there’s no one in security at all right now, allowing MDR’s shenanigans.) /15

“Oh fuck off, Natalie!” It’s weird to see Cobel rattled. She’s been fired for hiding Helly’s suicide attempt, so her plan to show proof of reintegration that evening to the board is also up in smoke. The board actually responds to Cobel through the speaker, which has never happened before. /14

Dylan’s waffle party is part of their plan to trigger the Overtime Contingency: it takes place after close of day, when the other refiners will be home, and he’d already volunteered to memorize the directions and hold the switches open, so it couldn’t be Mark as Cobel suggested. /13

I haven’t spent a lot of time in these recaps talking about Milchick (sans suit jacket) randomly taking pictures, but it’s gonna be relevant really soon. Well, next episode, but soon enough. /12

Dylan gets a special gift from Milchick during the pre-waffle party egg bar (coveted as fuck) for being three-time refiner of the quarter; “A man whose mind is as sharp as his incisors.” 💀/11
