This means extraordinary commitment from the survivor over months of regular contact. Not something you choose lightly. Most often they come because they have tried the *proper* courses of action and been failed, therefore, the journalists are their last hope for accountability

As Mel points out in /2 .. the investigation process is long and repetitive. Ideally you wouldn’t make a survivor tell their story multiple times (too high a chance of retraumatising) but often it’s unavoidable if you’re going to meet that balance of probability bar

Weird to me that this is the thing everyone cites, because there's so much that's so much worse. In 1974 the first laws against marital rape were passed, but all 50 states did not classify it as a crime/remove the exemption until 1993.
