AI footage in the quote post. However it's a real fact, with real footage available (See my link below). Now people who believed it have a false image of how octopus act, and people who recognise it as AI question a real observed scientific fact. Utter bullshit.

I am forever saying that if refusal isn't a live option in any decision making process about "AI", then no ethical practice is possible. You've got to be able to stop if the thing is unacceptable.
I watched this video once and it is so embarrassing that every time it comes up on my feed since then, i cringe so hard and try to scroll past it as fast as possible…
Enormously looking forward to this event on April 21 at 6:30pm ET (online!) with the amazing @emilymbender.bsky.social
and @alexhanna.bsky.social talking about their new book, The AI Con.

I’ve watched this 5 times (so far) and Im still cackling… I don’t fully understand why I find it so funny… the stretcher when they really need a broom? I don’t know..
Seriously… W H Y?!
… this lot are just fully committed to *constantly* coming up with new ways to make bad things somehow even worse (in ways that I was too naive to imagine)…
Ffs
🤦
This is a valid point: whenever you see this sort of high-pressure sales tactic turned on a technology, you can be CERTAIN that it's a fake—actually useful new tech sells itself!
And don't underestimate the effectiveness of FOMO as a tool in the hands of a con artist.
This needs to be taken seriously. Along with underfunding, Doug Ford is destroying the university system. And yes, this latest move is 100% in line with what we've seen happening by state-level MAGA-hats in the US.
BUT wait! New today, there's even more work that I have to do to find the co-pilot settings so I can turn it off than usual (and its not been trivial at the best of times). The little button I was using has disappeared, and I had to search... it feels like they're hiding it on purpose at this point.
This post just reminded me to do my daily ritual of turning co-pilot off again (it seems to reset itself to "on" at least daily).
I hate it here.
It was nice knowing you, central
dogma.
1/ we have an incredible package out today on our AI overlords and how the entire world is being ravaged in their pursuit for domination www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
We are looking for a human MALAT1 overexpression plasmid.
Does any of you kind people have it?
This is more broadly generalizable: If you don't do the research yourself, you have no idea if AI is making stuff up. And if you do the research yourself, then AI isn't saving you much labor, if any.
“You gotta learn AI or get left behind!” is a bit galling given that the entire purpose of AI seems to be to steal our work and fuck our brains and shit up the planet, which is to say, its GOAL is to leave us all behind. That, in order to make its owners rich.
Black cat, white whiskers, wiiide open mouth, Pink tongue and lots of pointy teefs
Oh! Happy bday!!! 🥳🎁🥳
bluesky: we are pivoting to AI
[site catches on fire]
bluesky: this was not the fault of AI
It's unpopular but in so many organisations now it's pushed for general use. Why? People are busy, overworked, underskilled and under immense pressure to perform. They don't have time to read, process, or act on anything so there's no incentive to produce any quality, thoughtful or rigorous work.
OpenAI: We’re burning money like the Joker. A miracle needs to happen for us to turn a profit
Microsoft: Please please use our AI systems, we’re teetering on the edge here
Anthropic: I wonder what’ll kill us first: lawsuits, regulations or model collapse
Media and universities: AI is here to stay
“viewpoint diversity” is a right-wing political project, as lisa siraganian explores in great detail here: www.aaup.org/academe/issu...
I keep hearing people say
that this pandemic
broke our society,
that this pandemic
profoundly broke our society,
and while that may be
I cannot help but think
that what this pandemic
has truly done to our society
is reveal
just how profoundly broken
it already was.
hi if you’re canadian and you hate the horrible LED headlights that are way too bright you have until april 20th (blaze it) to complain to transport canada about it in this survey
Bloody hell. Researchers invented a disease, published two fake papers to see if LLM’s would ingest them and kick them up as fact — and then it broke containment and all the major AI’s bought in. Information pollution.

The push for institutional neutrality, like the so-called “free-speech crisis,” was always a right wing ploy to get universities to stop pointing out obvious things like “fascists are ascendant” and “racism is bad.”
It is sad that so many university “leaders” took the bait.
Thank you so much!
“Universities are about engaging deeply with the subject matter. The goal of academic training is not to solve problems as efficiently and quickly as possible, but to develop skills for identifying & dealing with novel problems, which have never been solved before.”

It's International Anti-Street Harassment Week!
Give me one hour of your time and I'll teach you five really practical ways that you can safely intervene and de-escalate harassment in public spaces.
It's free and open to anyone but it's not recorded, so show up or miss out!
So you can’t use it to read books on Libby? 😭
