"A well designed game is fun even when you aren't very good at it" - actually useful design advice.

I got walled when I played it on release because I felt like the battles were out of my control, and then when I went back to replay it last year, I was like, "holy shit this fucks?"

This is the same issue I had with FF13 -- the mechanics are just so different. The game *expects* you to use auto-battle and focus on paradigm switching, but it doesn't have the courage to commit to that with any volume, so if you just manually enter commands it feels like chaos.
