More than 400 people, including hundreds of citizens, were “sorted” at gun point into racial and ethnic groups by 200 ICE agents who fired flash-bang grenades into cars with people inside, pointed guns at children & demanded their zip tied parents not comfort them. apple.news/Ausdx6kWtT0e...

The worst thing we’ve done in our more liberal modern era is create this notion that every opinion is worthy of respect. That racists should be heard. No. Displaying a Confederate flag with any enthusiasm is not worthy of respect. Many such examples!
“The people whose rights are being violated don’t have a lot of power, and the people responsible for the pollution are huge mega corporations with a lot of power…And they’ve been getting away with this for decades now.”
That’s rich. The puppy killer who called a protester a domestic terrorist without evidence says we need our leaders to turn down the rhetoric.
Yes, that does say it all.
In a court filing, the FBI said it found no body cam footage, social media clips, or any surveillance video of the incident.
Toby Price, a Hinds County assistant principal who was fired in 2022 for reading the children’s book “I Need a New Butt” to second-graders, was wrongfully fired and must be reinstated, the Mississippi Court of Appeals ruled.

Days before his term ended, Youngkin pardoned Wesley Shifflett, who was convicted in a fatal shooting murder of unarmed Timothy Johnson, accused of stealing sunglasses at a mall.

exceptional article, I think this gets at the heart of why Minneapolis is such a target for the Trump admin even above & beyond other liberal American cities

The organized astroturfing and financing of these extreme ideologies is one of the key stories of our time
As I have explored in depth, Macedo and Lee misrepresent what happened during the pandemic and are unable to confront Covid's actual toll, presumably because it undermines their premise.
A longer take here w/my colleague Greg Gibson:

There’s a lesson here about writing in the age of weaponized lies: Always precede false claims with giant red text, ideally wrapped in a <blink> tag, that says “THIS IS A LIE I AM REFUTING!!”
But also, why is a book that makes this kind of lazy, bad-faith argumentation getting any accolades at all?
Now we know which publications coverage of the ongoing pandemic and pain and suffering of long COVID cannot be trusted or respected tho mostly those outlets ignore it. Eventually it will be inescapable.
It is extremely disheartening to see In Covid's Wake getting these end-of-year accolades. I'm not the only journalist who has had book proposals (and even contracts!) on Covid turned down, yet a book with major factual errors and, tbh, weak arguments is heralded? And as a reader, it's disturbing 1/
you can always lie about anything your relatives ask you during the holidays. or whenever honestly. and it’s the only way to get into heaven actually

Elise Spenner @EliseSpenner X.com NEW: A short video clip in the files released today by the Department of Justice shows convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein talking to a man who appears to be Harvard psychologist Steven Pinker. More TK as @thecrimson parses thousands of new documents from Epstein's estate.

I have caught covid from my downstairs neighbours via central air for the 2nd time in one year.
I am so glad that I mask religiously, because you are contagious before symptoms appear and I just spent 3 days indoors with a dude who has an asthmatic kid. Wearing an N95 protects everyone around you.
Researchers call for urgent changes to Long COVID trials.
With at least 400 million affected and no proven treatments, they highlight the need to track post-exertional malaise, use longitudinal data, and design trials around disease variability.

Yet another good reason to mask up in public.
Holiday gathering reminder 🎁
If your guests test w/rapids twice before the event, 48 hours apart, it’ll catch 63% of Covid cases even if they have no symptoms. Testing 3x improves that to 79%!
This is how we curb the annual January surge that gave me Long Covid—thanks for protecting yr community 🤍

The true long-term burden of COVID-19 will be measured not in cases of Long COVID, but in the excess cases of heart disease, dementia, and diabetes that accumulate in survivors over the coming 20-30 years.
