i find it so fascinating how racism within white trans spaces are so normalized and heavily downplayed because so many white trans people value protecting racists within their own community simply because they share the same identity

As someone who is black

I've grown numb to racial situations like what's happening with Michael Kovach not because "it's stuff that was done years ago" but because it's so common for jokes/microaggressions to be done so passively with white people they forget what they're even talking about.

I've just been made aware of this. This is absolutely an insensitive joke. Earlier in the stream, we heard Ashley read out a username that contained the word “Nega” (short for negative) and all of us, including chat, freaked out because we misheard what was said. Once the misunderstanding was cleared, we poked fun at the absurdity of it. However, the "joke" relies on the fact that it's "teetering on racist" - which ultimately is no different than making a legitimate racist joke. I apologize for any harm this has caused, and for the fact that we ever thought it humorous to joke about in the first place. Racism is NEVER okay and we should always strive to be kind and lift each other up.

It's so funny to see people say that Michael Kovach making a "I'm not touching you racism" joke is a "nothingburger drama" when Michael himself literally said that it's no different than actual racism.

The Michael Kovach & Ashley Nichols situation is the most white people shit I've seen in a while. "You were laughing at a word that sounded similar but was verifiably not the n-word and thus we demand an apology" let me see a picture of your hand I just wanna check something really quickly.

Crackers: "It was 7 years ago this isn't that big of a deal!!!"
Michael James Kovach himself: "yeah that was a shitty racist joke I shouldn't have said that microaggressions do more harm than people think they do I'm sorry."
