Given that I have some really big personal projects going on I was only able to spend one night at FE and almost passed on it entirely. But I'm really happy that I went. Was really great to reconnect with some folks I hadn't seen in a while. So many good vibes!!

A little late, but finally got around to making my birthday cake.
Component recipes will be added to my book over the course of the next week.
Here's a link to the book. Still lots of recipes that need to be added. It's slow going because I need to verify everything and get pictures before a recipe can be added. So it's a bit sparse at the moment but I add recipes pretty regularly.

This local Wolfdog joined an Olympic ski event and triggered the finish-line camera. This is Nazgul. He snuck into a cross-country skiing sprint this morning and raced the homestretch with some competitors before being escorted home. 14/10 someone get him a medal
I feel like I should post more, but really my life is pretty predictable. Play hockey, work, love my friends, make treats, and work out to avoid getting overly fat from the treats I make.
Simple, but it's pretty great. I could be doing a lot worse.

Random little test bake over the weekend. Working on nailing down my yellow cake recipe and flavoring buttercream with home made caramel sauce.

Buttermilk biscuits
A biscuit breakfast sandwich with scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, fresh ground black pepper, a little bit of kewpie mayo, and sriracha.
It may not be a fancy cake or pastry, but the buttermilk biscuit makes for a part of my absolute favorite breakfast, the biscuit breakfast sandwich. I figured why not have one more less-than-healthy meal before getting started on burning off those holiday pounds.
Made some cream puffs for friendsmas dinner!

I use the fruit too. There is some disagreement as to whether you should discard the juice after thawing or use it in the batter. Keeping the juice can make the loaf dense, claggy, and impact the rise. Discarding it can sacrifice flavor. Using this method I have a nice texture and all that flavor
I freeze my bananas before making banana bread. As they thaw they release a lot of their liquid, quite a bit if you let them thaw all the way to room temp. I take that stuff and reduce it to a syrup and use that instead of the original liquid.
Made really tasty banana bread by reducing released banana juice into a syrup first. Allowed for a really soft texture that wasn't too dense while also preserving all of that tasty banana flavor :9
