Album art. Title says "WHIRLWIND" in red and yellow pixel-text, and "UNICODE" at the bottom. A martial artist wearing blue in the foreground, performing an inverted spin-kick in a cyclone of wind. in the background, sakura trees shed blossoms in the wind. Illustration style strongly reminiscent of 90s arcade fighting games like Street Fighter 2.
NEW ALBUM TIME! 8 tracks. Energetic, melodic, 4/4 beats. This is my nostalgic little love-letter to the Electro House and Progressive House legends of the 2000s, and the sounds which were all around me as I was first falling in love with making dance music.
this was absolutely my first guess. The formerly well-employed who suddenly need to start budgeting like poor people, but don't have the neural pathways burned in yet.
A "related articles" section from the bottom of the Forbes page, listing 4 utterly indistinguishable "other" "articles" by the same "author", including "America's Best Rye Whiskey, According To The Beverage Testing Institute" by Joseph V Micallef, and "The World's Best Rye Whisky, According To The Council Of Whiskey Masters" by Joseph V Micallef

When will they clarify their stance on peanut butter
I do this technique and then sometimes spend half a day trying to figure out where i put it. It's very effective.
if only minnesota's governor and police chief were one tenth as brave as their average civilians
Legit, I think there's something to this. Rich people who lack basic skills always had people to help them seem capable to the outside world, but still felt the private humiliation of, say, their assistant knowing they're illiterate. A non-sentient assistant frees them from this last burden
He might seem pretty smart and plugged-in by the standards of old institutional money, but compared to basically anyone who liked sci fi as a kid and maybe owns a couple Ray Kurzweil books, he's pretty unremarkably average
first two panels of an Achewood strip. In the first panel Ray says "Must be ten years since the last time, 'cause Hitler's dick is in the news again." The screenshot includes the comic's date stamp, which is from 2016.
Must be about ten years since the last time!
At some point the malicious people and organizations figured out that they could just be "incompetent on purpose" and would be given the benefit of the doubt, basically forever. "Oops, i keep making these honest mistakes which are coincidentally very profitable to me! Oops oops oops!"
Just like that old chestnut about the monkeys who were taught not to climb the ladder and wouldn't let any newcomers climb it either; the real problem in linux now is dealing with all the still-traumatized users from a decade ago.
(I just... *love* scanning for life forms!)
I'm doing squiggly trance today.
He's my favourite ten guys from Star Trek
It's gonna be so funny in 5 years, looking back on this skeet as the turning point of the whole platform
Some Rube Goldberg machines involve an actual spring mousetrap, and incorporating both a mouse and a mousetrap into the same machine is generally considered insensitive, so we make exceptions for those.
This is what being on the internet is like now.
He was trying to google "inflammation," but mixed up his bookmarks and ended up on rule34 searching "inflation"
Maybe something about learning to be more happy with the moral values of your choices, than with little treats. Like if you can't summon up enough joy and pride from knowing you did the right thing, if that feeling can't complete with some roller coasters... that might be a failure of self esteem.
The Blues Brothers, in front of a posterized sunset encircled by the line: "I HATE ILLINOIS NAZIS"
even the title, "the ones who walk away" is a subtle lie; the story is really about the ones who stay. That bit about the treason of the artist and the banality of evil, isn't just the narrator's accusation; it's their confession
I took it as an unreliable narrator story. Earlier they said the society runs without slaves, cops and so on; but what could "slave" mean if it doesn't include the child? There would certainly be attempts to free the child, and people whose job it is to foil them. What to call them, if not cops?
What if "social media" as a technology, and "capitalist ownership of the social media platform" as a sociopolitical phenomenon, are entirely separate ideas to be considered on their own?
An edited version of a classic "trolley problem" meme. One character with a lot of money is standing at the switch. a few people are tied to the train track, and two are talking: "zzz-what! Where am I?" "You're in the classic 1973 philosophical sf short story "the ones who walk away from omelas" by Ursula K Le Guin" "Oh- I thought i would be the ones deciding whether to walk away" "No, that's someone else"
oh my god i can't believe i found the right context for this
Look, I hate the current guy too, but this is embarrassing, naive nostalgia. Obama's administration laid the groundwork for lots of what's happening now, and if you can't bring yourself to criticize it, best avoid political discussions altogether.
It's also pretty telling that he apparently thinks being trans is an especially white thing.
