There’s a thing about jazz I love and it’s this: so many of the greats started simple because they had no choice, became prodigious and played literal sheets of sound, astounding amounts of notes, and then they got old and wise and went back to playing simple.

Brodick Bay, Isle of Arran today. Beach & grass in the foreground, sea with a few small boats in the middle and the stunning backdrop of Goat Fell & Glen Cloy, all below a deep blue sky with a few fluffy white clouds. Beautiful.
Regular readers of the Herald may find this hard to believe, but today we had a very pleasant day trip to Arran on the MV Caledonian Isles and tomorrow my wife has a GP appointment.
The all-pervasive ‘ferries are fucked and you can’t get a GP appointment #snpbad’ narrative is complete bollocks.
I've been playing golf for decades, every year new clubs come out, and every year they always say these new clubs hit it longer with more accuracy. Surely we should all be hitting it to the moon by now?
two images of the human body's circulatory system. One of them with good cable management
The human circulatory system, before and after proper cable management.
It was well known *and yet* every mention of Peter on social media had a hundred responses that were just the photos of him with Epstein, and that achieved nothing at all - didn’t make anyone blink - until the Americans released his sucky, criminal emails.
Putting aside the vetting system, surely just knowing Mandy’s past should have been enough.
Maybe he looked like a good fit because those he would be dealing with were also in the Epstein files.
So much rot.
“And now it’s over to Joe Zawinul for the Weather Report”
BBC Devon Political Reporter, Miles Davis reporting on council elections.
Music legend and BBC journalist.
Anyone who was familiar with his history and past career could see clearly that Peter Mandelson was not fit to be appointed US Ambassador, no vetting required. The Epstein revelations just added even more evidence but he should never even have been under consideration. Terrible judgement by Starmer.
A reminder, the security services advised Theresa May Johnson was a security risk before she appointed him Foreign Secretary, they advised against giving Lebedev a peerage, he got one, Johnson misled (lied to you and me) about what he knew about Pincher when he made him Deputy Chief Whip.
Very long piece by BBC news on immigrants pretending to be gay to secure right to remain.
I have NEVER seen the BBC do such reporting on:
Millionaire tax dodgers
PPE profiteers
Corporate tax dodging.
Anyone
It’s so good. Those Michael McDonald high backing vocals on Peg - wonderful.
The explosion in decent cookery advice means that eating out is very unappealing. Seems to me that you have to spend a fortune to get something significantly better than you could make at home. Hence we hardly ever eat out except for convenience food.

I clearly recall the start of the ‘What currency will you use?’ attack line.
1st TV debate, Salmond was asked & answered ‘we will use the pound’ amid heckling from panel.
Next morning on BBC Breakfast, Douglas Alexander started the lie & went unchallenged.
‘OIAG’ was a misquote. Salmond said it was a ‘once in a generation opportunity’. Rhetorical speech to get the vote out, legally & constitutionally meaningless. I used to have a link to the actual footage on the Telegraph of all places but they have taken it down.
Salmond answered clearly & concisely that we would use the pound. It may not have been an answer that everyone liked, but he absolutely answered the question. Next time round clarity will be vital. My personal preference is the Euro but it would take work to get agreement.
This is Unionist kryptonite.
They cannot answer the question as their position is untenable.
They weaponised ‘what currency will we use?’ in 2014 and continued with ‘once in a generation’ despite Indy side having clear answers for both.
Payback time: ‘How do they get one?’ Keep asking.
Excellent article. Explains so much of how our present day tech world evolved.
‘It is a story about how America invented a manufacturing philosophy, exported it to Japan, forgot it, relearnt fragments of it through a handful of companies & then re-exported the whole synthesis to Asia.’
Article ostensibly about Apple but really the quality movement!

Orbán defeated & McIlroy wins back to back Masters. Decent Sunday.
Amazing musician & lovely man.
It’s been a vintage year for terrible Masters coverage by SkySports. Seriously - why do they think any golf fan wants the opinion of the England football manager? Just show the flipping golf, like you’re doing on the Red Button channels.
Rechargeable vacuum cleaners are great - cordless, lightweight and easy to use. However, if you actually want to get crap off your carpet, buy a Henry.
Rory McIlroy is six ahead at the halfway mark. This is insanity.
The new Explore tab on @bsky.app is terrible. What were you thinking?
I can’t remove the suggested feeds from that page and there are only the top 2 trending topics showing.
Please revert.
Absolutely. A birdie blitz would be great. Enjoy.
I’m quite relaxed about the swearing although it’s not to everyone’s liking. It’s a frustrating game at any level when a shot goes wrong & sometimes you need to vent. But I agree that once he started whacking the turf in frustration, that’s not good.
this reminds me of Bill Clinton's "I did not have sex with that woman" denial
Just one more birdie from Rose & we can pick up from where we left off last year. Rose & McIlroy head to head rematch - yes please.

Excellent swearing performance from Bob McIntyre today. We’ve had a ‘fuck’s sake’ and a ‘Jesus Fuck’ already.
