A different student confided in me that they use they/them pronouns and that they're planning on asking their parents to let them use a more gnc name, and I told them that I was so proud that they felt comfortable telling me- the student teacher- that.

I get using their birth name around parents or staff but as someone who had a trans friend in high school whose earliest gender affirming care was changing his name socially and it improved his confidence and mental health, what are we doing?

I've been calling one of my students by their name (context: they're trans) since the beginning of the semester. I have four weeks left with these students, and my CT told me not to call them that any more because of a bill that passed last year.
