....I worked at SN for 7 years.
At the END OF THAT TIME, I made as much as the CEO got AS A RAISE.
Literally half of that amount, the amount she got AS A RAISE, would help these writers so much, writers making PEANUTS.
And yet? Silence.

In 2024, @society4science.bsky.social CEO @mayaajmera.bsky.social received a $79,875 raise. The changes in our latest proposal mark a less than $40,000 increase in salary costs for the Society compared to their previous offer. That's for all 27 guild members over the full 3-year contract.

Last week, our members participated in a 24-hour #strike. The outpouring of support has been inspiring. Thank you to everyone who’s shown up and stood with us. After 567 days of negotiating with @society4science.bsky.social, we’re still fighting for the fair contract we deserve.
The wonderful writers @sn-media-guild.bsky.social have been waiting on a fair contract almost long enough to gestate a baby elephant (620 days).
They have neither a contract NOR a baby elephant.
All they want is a contract, to be paid for their amazing expertise.
Today is 561 days.
I may be biased but all strikes need to have violins, dinosaur costumes, a live sketch artists, and bird facts
I'm so proud of my @sn-media-guild.bsky.social colleagues, who have been picketing in front of the schmancy new @society4science.bsky.social building ALL DAY LONG. They are so cool and smart and funny and have so much freaking stamina 🥹

"We’ve demonstrated that we can do our jobs, and do them well, from all over the country and even world. We’ve built a collaborative team that thrives on trust and respect. But we need the support of our employer to keep delivering the award-winning reporting we’re known for." Jill Sakai
"The pandemic proved we can do award-winning science journalism from anywhere in the world. I and my colleagues who are fully remote continue to prove it every day. If only the Society could see that it’s the work and the people that matter, not where they sit and when." Chris Crockett
"Clear, informed reporting is as crucial now as it has ever been. Yet it doesn’t always feel like that work is appreciated. Our CEO has gotten raises that outpace my salary — as well as some other people on staff — while many of ours barely keep up with rising costs." @viruswhiz.bsky.social
