Preaching about Francis of Assisi at a Jesuit church tomorrow. Pray for me, folks!

As soon as you arrive in Jerusalem sign up on a wait list in the Catholic sacristy of the Holy Sepulcher to stay overnight at the basilica. Absolutely worth it.
There’s a very nice brewery, BeerBazaar, at the quite funky at nights Mehane Yehuda Market.
Only three spots left. Please help spread the word.
“Da Pope” would do.
One of many perks of the Capuchin habit: people randomly give you a ride when you wait for a bus.
Just checked for you: it works even in the Bronx.
Don’t know much about them but I recall @maxwellkuzma.bsky.social posting some stuff about them on Substack recently.
Julien Green was my first encounter with Francis. Still love it.
Coming up next year in Washington, MI.
That’s what they call Garden of Gethsemane in Polish. Was he Polish?
Thanks. I didn’t remember where in “Seven Storey Mountain” was the story. I was sure you would know it.
Meanwhile I found a PDF of the book online and it reads: “All I could think of was to go over across Seventh Avenue to the Church ofthe Capuchins, next to the station.” Definitely St. John it is.
@frcharles.bsky.social, do you know the story of young Thomas Merton going to confession to a Capuchin church in New York and the priest completely destroying his dream of a Franciscan vocation? Do you know what church it was?
Similar to my experience with our provincial retreat. I gave it a try once. I’m good, thanks.
Siri has a few interesting answers that I may have used in a homily or two.
God bless you, @jamesmartinsj.bsky.social, for what you do. That’s a huge step forward, and yet the fact that the pilgrimage is still “semi-official” shows how many more steps are needed until everyone can feel welcome in the Church.

Happy feast day!
Don’t loose your head, unless it’s for the Boss!
I loathe your guns. God loathes your guns and the false idol that has been built up around them.
People calling for even more guns for “protection” in 3… 2… 1…
I no longer pray for peace. I pray for a miracle.
Black and white woodcut-style illustration depicting Christ with long hair and a beard, wearing a striped robe. He stands dynamically on one leg, the other raised mid-stride, holding a rifle horizontally across his body as if breaking it. Radiating lines behind him evoke divine presence or moral urgency. The ground beneath is textured with horizontal strokes.

God *damn* the guns.
‘Men will come from east and west, and from north and south, and sit at table in the kingdom of God’ (v. 29). Therefore, this door is narrow, but is open to everyone! Do not forget this: to everyone! The door is open to everyone!”
The narrow door is an image that could scare us, as if salvation is destined for only a select few, or for perfect people. But this contradicts what Jesus has taught us on many occasions; and, as a matter of fact, a little further ahead, he confirms,
Pope Francis, Angelus on Sunday, August 21, 2022:
“In the passage from the Gospel of Luke for this Sunday’s liturgy, someone asks Jesus, ‘Will those who are saved be few?’ And the Lord responds: “Strive to enter by the narrow door” (Lk 13:24).
