A friendly reminder that feeling unsafe doesn’t mean we’re in actual danger.

If the sight of poverty makes you uncomfortable, because suspicious, please call for a stronger social safety net, not for increased policing.

Fraser called the actions of the EPS ā€œreprehensibleā€ and made it clear that he also felt threatened and that the police may have crossed the line into criminality.

ā€œThe veiled threat that they may release more information about this matter if they are not happy about the sentence I impose comes dangerously close, and may actually cross the line, into an attempt to wilfully obstruct, pervert, or defeat the course of justice in a judicial proceeding,ā€ Fraser said in his ruling.

A judge in this case said Edmonton Police may have crossed the line into criminality by attempting to bully him and the prosecutor on a plea deal. 1

This is not his first error of judgement followed by rationalization. There is no question, he should be removed.

ā€œWhat does this episode say about the likely quality and professionalism of future decision-making? A single error of judgment can sometimes be corrected by forthright acknowledgment, reflection, and changed conduct. What is more concerning is an error of judgment followed by rationalization.ā€

A reminder that this weekend is a government holiday, with school closures, to mark a Christian holiday. But apparently it's only ideologically based when it's everyone else.

The pundit and columnist class meltdown from folks who have never supported the NDP honestly suggests to me that the NDP is doing something significant that’s worth paying attention to.

Those who defend power tend to screech the loudest when power is genuinely threatened.

To be clear this the same chief that at the same time as this insane trip he decided to renew a battle against two wronged black men that EPS attacked when they answered the men's own call for help, because the actual accused was a white woman

I haven’t been to Edmonton Police Commission in years but it appears seating for media has been completely eliminated and replaced with desks for police service civilian staff. This might be petty but seems not great!

It really pisses me off when any chair of city council, committee or commission says they hope they don’t butcher a speaker’s name. Every submission to speak has a place to phonetically spell your name to avoid this. It’s an unnecessary micro aggression with an easy fix. šŸ˜’

This should be a huge fucking wake-up call to every level of government playing footsie with fascists and their pals in ā€˜law enforcement.’
These people are by far the biggest threat to public safety - not protesters, not encampment dwellers, not people using drugs. Fascists.

Forced treatment doesn’t create recovery.
It creates resistance.
I’ve worked in the private recovery industry.
The clients who were forced into it didn’t recover.
They relapsed, they disappeared, and some died.
Support people. Don’t control them!

City Council’s priorities are completely out of whack. They can’t clean streets, can’t tow vehicles, and are making it harder for small businesses to survive, all while handing out millions of dollars to the billionaire owner of a hockey club. Absolutely shameful.
