The President should address the American people and apologize for illegally shutting down the SNAP program, cutting off food from 40+ million Americans.

Instead, he had a deputy assistant Secretary of Agriculture write a letter to states saying "oops!"

The Appropriations Committee held a hearing on HR1 and its impact on SNAP in Connecticut.

Somehow we have unlimited money to bail out the government of Argentina while the feds are cutting food for low-income US veterans.

Hundreds of thousands of Connecticut families are at-risk of losing their food assistance thanks to the cruel & reckless approach of the Trump Administration.

“The state has the ability to protect federal constitutional rights at the state level and to say that we are going to ensure that they are not violated,” Lesser said.

He added that the legislature should pass the [sic] state civil rights law and ensure protections are in place to tighten rules upon state data.

The state civil rights law would expressly protect federal constitutional rights in state law, according to Lesser.

“I want to make sure the constitutional rights of everyone in Connecticut including U.S. citizens are protected,” [Lesser] said. “The federal government has a responsibility to enforce immigration laws. I respect that. I am concerned about overreach and infringement of constitutional rights.” 🧵

This morning I wrote a letter to CT Children's CEO Jim Shmerling expressing serious concerns about enacting a discriminatory policy that cow-tows to Donald Trump and jeopardizes the safety of transgender youth in my district.

Here in Connecticut, we're working to ensure everyone has access to the mental health care they deserve. Senators @mattlesser.bsky.social and Cabrera were proud to join Governor Lamont and advocates on Thursday for a bill signing to strengthen mental health parity in our state.

Dan Haar: Ozempic and Wegovy are expensive. Connecticut wants to make its own cheaper version. A new law gives Gov. Lamont "an enormous amount of negotiating leverage with the industry," Sen. Lesser said.

The proposal was included in our bipartisan prescription drug affordability bill, and would require the sign off of the US Department of Health and Human Services. It passed the legislature almost unanimously! And yes, big Pharma hates it.

So this is out of the box: Governor Lamont has signed my proposal to have Connecticut partner with a generic drug manufacturer to manufacture our own Ozempic.

Taxpayers are spending $150 million a year on that one drug - it's not affordable!
