A slender brown and yellow toad with long, skinny legs! They have a very rough skin texture, covered in lots of small warty bumps! They have large eyes with a golden iris!

Twitter/X is a story on its own:
🔴 While users have become more Republican
💥 POSTING has completely transformed: it has moved nearly ❗70 percentage points❗ from Democrat-dominated to Republican-leaning.
Is social media dying? How much did Twitter change as it became X? Which party now dominates the conversation?
Using nationally representative ANES data from 2020 & 2024, I map how the U.S. social media landscape has changed
Here are the key take-aways 🧵

For the very first time, we pushed data to #FathomVerse while an expedition is still in progress. If you play FathomVerse right now, you will see images from the #DesigningtheFuture3 expedition on R/V Falkor (too). Dive in!

Also, hilarious that Rob Saka is STILL mad that people made fun of him for wanting to undo a safety project so drivers could turn left into the tiny parking lot of his kids' preschool. He's now saying it would have helped "immigrant and refugee communities... kids' daycares, [AND] working families."
I thought the equivalent for girls was becoming a house wife, it’s just not as popular as it used to be for a wide variety of reasons.
I remember when Florida spun up monoclonal treatment centers in places like libraries and people would stagger there too sick to stand
I’m glad this came out six years ago so I’m not left suspecting it’s AI that my geriatric millennial brain can’t detect
Room in bookstore covered in shelves in slightly distorted panoramic photo with woman singing at far left, holding a mic, and man playing guitar next to her. Audience sitting in chairs watch from left of center to far right.
Big bummer for Seattle: Ada’s Technical Books is shutting down in June. mailchi.mp/d1ef4cc6e7f2... Such a great store, such great owners. The kind of bookstore I suggested meeting any visitor to the city at or suggested they stop by in their travels.
There’s nothing like taking this device into a crowded convention talk or an airplane on the tarmac and hooting and hollering as the number goes up.
Here’s somebody else experiencing something closer to what you did!

"Birds see fast enough that TV is a just slideshow of still images but slow enough they can see which direction the stars are moving" is really doing a number on me
And I’m going to circulate it again, because it’s a great example of effective visual communication, and that graphics often convey things more immediately than text does not.
I wonder if some leftists and liberals will pay attention to this. I've seen folks overly praise Rightwing organizing as if it is not subject to the same social forces and interpersonal dynamics as Left organizing. In fact it is: we often just don't have the same visibility into their groups.
I’ve reached out to Kennedy directly to ask…but in the meantime, I’ve learned they have a gofundme up for the family. Please support them.

I found this thread interesting on the mechanics of what went on

Time for a Bristol stool chart cake!
Me to 3yo: What do you want for your birthday party theme?
3yo: “Poopoo & peepee theme! We can get apple juice for the pee, so a skeleton pees and you drink the skeleton pee but it’s okay because it’s juice”
Me: ..K I was thinking like “dinosaurs” but let’s put a pin in “piss fountain of the dead”
An elongated beetle with metallic green head and pronotum, bright pink elytra, and a black abdomen. It is standing among yellowish-white mushrooms.
There were also rove beetles running around swiping fly larvae. It was a whole tiny ecosystem on one log. Amazing.

A fly with red eyes that are shaped upward like horns. The fly has pale legs and underside with brown on the top of the head and a brown and tan striped scutum. It is standing on an off white mushroom.
Two flies with red eyes that are shaped upward like horns. The flies have pale legs and undersides with brown on the top of the head, a brown and tan striped scutum, and a dark brown and pale striped abdomen. The fly on the left is getting ready to shove the fly on the right with his front leg.

Just a lil guy defending his mushroom.
We found a log covered in mushrooms and spotted some small hammerhead flies on it. Turns out these are feisty fruit flies and the males are serious about defending their patch. One of our coolest finds so far! #invert

The Wetland Project has been my favorite alternate-reality radio experience since it began. Since it only happens once a year, you can’t become accustomed to it. Close your eyes and be washed over by the sonic reality of an isolated bog on Saturna Island!
Concept plan shows the existing house, a large gathering lawn and a garden with snaking paths. A new stairway leads down to Prospect Street.
Seattle Parks and Recreation has released a concept plan for a new park to be built in Capitol Hill at Harvard Ave E and E Prospect Street, the former home of philanthropist Kay Bullitt that was donated to the city as a life estate. Funding isn't available to advance this until at least 2029.
For your linked post—apparently the children study isn’t much of a study. (That doesn’t rebut your other link but I thought I’d let you know about the children one.)
Has anyone actually read that Alexa-makes-kids-talk-rudely paper?
Because it's JUST A ONE-PAGE THOUGHT EXPERIMENT.
No data, just possible concerns. And maybe they're legit, but the paper itself provides no data, no evidence, just "this could happen"-s.
Here's the whole thing:
JFC do you have any idea how much $41 million dollars is in the world of state legislative elections?
I don't have the figures at hand but I'll bet that in 2024, every candidate for every state seat in the legislatures of all 3 states combined didn't collectively raise half that much.
