A couple years ago, @henrygrabar.bsky.social wrote about the premium most Americans are willing to pay to live in walkable neighborhoods.
It was, at the time, 35-40% -- so on a half million dollar house, a couple hundred grand.
This is vitally important. 🧵
Imagine creating these throughout #NYC. www.nytimes.com/2025/07/22/c...
"...automobile travel has about ten times the death rate as public transit, and transit vehicles also impose less risk on non-occupants like cyclists, pedestrians and other road users. Cars should come with warnings: 'Driving causes painful injuries, disabilities and death.'"
“We want affordable housing, and reduced hardscape, and trees, and something’s got to give if you’re mandating all those things, and parking is the obvious choice.” -Shoreline Councilmember Keith Scully

and its fucking gorgeous
This stunning new bike and pedestrian crossing hangs off the side of an old railroad bridge
Race the L8 is going national!
No one who is supporting Trump is ever going to be convinced by this shit.
The only convincing needed here is for those of us who are horrified to pull ICE away from these innocent people, forcefully and permanently.
No one else is gonna.
Your mouth to god’s ear!
There’s a solution for that.
Make 10' lanes (or narrower) the default for local streets. Require agencies to justify any decision to build wider than that. www.strongtowns.org/journal/2023...
Today is NYC's primary election! Polling sites are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Our handy voter guide includes all our endorsements for Mayor, Comptroller, Borough President, and City Council, plus links to voting info. Please vote! It can and will make a difference! www.streetspac.org/streetspac_s...
Kids in Bed-Stuy rallied last week to save the protected bike lane on Bedford Avenue that they use to get to school, see friends, and just have fun.
Here's what they had to say about Mayor Adams's plan to replace it with an unprotected, unsafe lane: youtube.com/shorts/7roxj...
We urge voters in Brooklyn's 39th Council District to re-elect Shahana Hanif. She fought to extend her district's 9th St. protected bike lane in 2023, and worked with colleagues to secure safety upgrades along Atlantic Ave. More on @shahanafrombk.bsky.social here: www.streetspac.org/2025_nyc_pri...
The President's disastrous decision to bomb Iran without authorization is a grave violation of the Constitution and Congressional War Powers. He has impulsively risked launching a war that may ensnare us for generations. It is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment.
AOC: “It is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment.”
Has any journalist looked into who these men are? Why is this allowed for law enforcement? How do we know this isn't a right-wing assassin? Has ICE filled the ranks with militia members, Proud Boys, 3%s, KKK, and the like? Is that why their identities are being hidden and why they dress like this?
This is bravery and decency. This is what people upset about this administration want. If you really believe this stuff is wrong, and you have a public profile and principles and want to say you're a leader, then get out there and do the damn thing.
I can't think of anyone currently running for office more dangerous than Andrew Cuomo. Not just for NYC but for the nation, because unfortunately NYC disproportionately affects the rest of the states. Bad politicians elsewhere don't have the same structural power. NYC: Do not vote for this man.
I'm #1 with the @nytimes.com Opinion Panel, and hope to be #1 on your ballot.
Find your closest rally on Saturday and go. You can tell your kids where you were on the other side of this. Outnumber him everywhere.

“The owner of the car [that gets the device] may not be the person who’s driving the car,” Magnarelli said, summarizing some of the opposition to the bill (S4045/A2299). “Ninety percent of the time they are the same, but they’re not necessarily. Now you’re going to take the car away from the family. This is where due process comes in and [the Assembly lawyers] are looking into how we deal with due process.”
This isn’t even true. The family of the speeding driver wouldn’t lose access to the car. They’d lose the ability to *speed* in that car, which would have a speed governor installed. Meanwhile, it’s the families whose loved ones are killed by egregiously reckless drivers who actually lose something.
This is it! You can't game the system as an individual voter. Your first two choices should be your "I'd love for them to be mayor" picks. Next two should be "I'd be okay with them" picks. Last one should be the "It beats the alternative" pick. In other words, just rank in order of preference.
