I am actually more than a little miffed to be asked to pay over €300 for early bird registration for an event that 1) is scheduled to be Thursday-Saturday, and 2) doesn't have a kosher option, when the field in question was very much developed by Jews.

Glad we care about inclusivity, nu?

Hey if you need something to do over this long weekend, have a go at my PhD student Anna-Merete’s survey. It’s sentences to rate, you just need to have any English variety as your first language, and it’ll take you 10–15 minutes. #linguistics

Your regular reminder that dehumanizing the people who are dehumanizing others isn’t how we’re gonna get to liberation.

We have to live into the world we want to create.

Another reminder: I don’t reskeet images without alt text. Accessibility matters.

Ten years ago this weekend, I went to what has been the most important conference of my life. It was my first exposure to linguistic landscapes, sure, but even more so, that was the conference where I started chatting to a very cute tech support guy, and kind of never stopped

Reader, I married him

Quite pleased with my own creativity last night in putting out Miriam's water in a whiskey dram

She is associated with the water of life, after all

I think it kind of also depends on how he was educated. Much of the modern yeshiva curricula has a heavy focus on halacha (Jewish law), so it's quite possible he would have that background

I was at a conference a few years ago, and was wondering why the pockets in my dress were not behaving. Did I have the dress on backwards? Yes I did.

I try really hard not to let it restrict me, but it makes travel so hard!! Last year, the one pizza place near me that has any idea about gluten announced on 1 April that they would be stopping the service (after already scaling way back) and the backlash was so intense they did an apology discount

I have two slips of paper, one in each pocket.

The first says: "Schmutz is not Chametz."

The other says: "If I don't clean it now, it's going to stay filthy until next Passover."

I take out and read each slip of paper as necessary for the moment.

The only thing better than the international spread of verbal memes is when they get misinterpreted for whatever reason, resulting in two young boys shouting "SIXTY SEVEN" in the main station first thing in the morning

Account-Habil-Ity Post: It looks like I will be returning to Limerick in June for #LL17 to talk about the crisis of hegemonic masculinities as represented in the mascots of (fried) chicken (and waffles) restaurants (yes, really!)

Any time I'm particularly grumpy about Deutsche Bahn's attempts to thwart my commute, I take great pleasure in saying that the entire system is antisemitic. It doesn't help me get to home from work, but it makes me feel better

You have to love an R2 who tells you that a section of your theoretical framework is 'overall, great' and goes on to enthuse about various aspects of the data. More people should be like this R2

Tweet from the Prime Minister of Israel: "Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu:

Antisemitism knows no limits or boundaries.

Israel is attacked because it is the Jewish state. Temple Israel in Detroit was attacked today because it is a Jewish house of worship."

Speaking as a Jew living in Diaspora, who needs to exist as a minority at a time of rising antisemitism, I would really appreciate it if the Prime Minister of a country where I do not live would not say that attacks on a sovereign country are analogous to attacks on a synagogue.

Oh that's well handy 🙃 I just remember more than one occasion landing in to you in Cork from Galway or Limerick absolutely desperate for the toilet, and but somehow the private coaches don't have that issue

And additionally, the busses don't have a toilet for a ??? hours long route, which is absolutely baffling

I lived in the west of Ireland for seven years so NRW winters were an improvement 🙃 but I really enjoyed the befuddlement on the optician's face last month when I came in with an urgent need for sunglasses and the sky was grey and tragic, and I am beyond delighted to have them with me today
