it’s also v weird to me that “ouches” seems to be a convergent phenomenon across sessions. I would expect it to be extremely low-probability for “ouches” to spontaneously appear in most text, even after adding the filter.

this also rhymes with the classic scifi trope of far-future spacefaring civilizations forgetting what star system humans originally came from

there’s a very particular aesthetic which I love but don’t know how to name, one archetypal example of which is “astronauts en route to mars incidentally break the all-time human altitude record in the first few days of a vastly longer journey”

controversial theory holds that thing B should work because thing A is true. after investigation, it turns out that thing A is in fact true. and, lo and behold, thing B does actually work! not because of thing A, though.

Excerpt from Diaspora (Greg Egan, 1997):

“There’s been a revival of the old debate: with the failure of the wormholes, should we consider redesigning our minds to encompass interstellar distances? One self spanning thousands of stars, not via cloning, but through acceptance of the natural time scale of the light-speed lag. Millennia passing between mental events. Local contingencies dealt with by non-conscious systems.”
