I'm well into "if you can't say anything nice [about historic preservationists] don't say anything at all." territory.

How much money does historic Seattle get from the city each year in the form of department of neighborhood grants?
I'm glad Suarez has just taken off the mask at this point so no one serious has to pretend she has a point.
Can you imagine, vision zero stagflation, I hear it could kill the economy.
My experience with SDOT during the design phase is that they consistently trade away safety, either in advance or in response to pressure.
Cars heading onto i90 backed up well into what is supposed to be a bus lane
We need to extend the bus lane through the i90 interchange

Here's some of the people I saw biking in the Rainier valley on the way to work today
Picture of text stating: show us what actions you can take to address congestion. Focus solutions on expanding and maximizing roadway capacity for driving. ....You may also need to recover roadway capacity from other purposes to support driving
"You may also need to recover road capacity
from other purposes to support driving." The Trump administration urges governors and mayors to take away bus lanes, bike lanes and sidewalks to support more driving. No kidding - straight from USDOT head Sean Duffy to every gov and mayor in America
City of Renton facebook post Future development in Renton is changing. State Law ESSB 5184 was adopted by the Washington State Legislature in 2025. In 2027, it will require cities like Renton to limit the amount of parking that cities can require. In January 2027: 🚗 The city cannot require more parking than the state allows. 📏 Developers may choose to build more parking than required, based on project needs and market demand. 🅿️ Parking requirements will still vary depending on project size, use, and the standards established by the state. See the details and ask your questions. Link in comments. Before: Renton can require 2 parking spaces House with 2 cars parked in front of a 1.5 car garage After: Cities may require only 1 parking space House with zero cars parked out front of a .75 car garage.
Renton official government page spreading FUD about the parking requirement changes by pretending that limits on parking requirements are parking maximums.
Nemani has always given off controlled opposition vibes to me.
I understand why, what I'll call "technocratic advocates", want to demand that others bring "proposed solutions" when they do advocacy, but the vast majority of people do advocacy based on vibes, not plans.

Just before 4:30am this morning, Seattle Fire responded to a driver hitting TWO people on bikes at Aurora Ave N and Roy Street.
Both cyclists were transported to the hospital with significant injuries.
We're still waiting on additional information around how this crash occurred.
I have had this thought about "avid" cyclists as well.
Yes, it's useful to know what people that already bike think about infrastructure, but if you want more people to bike you need to ask people that *don't* bike why.
Huge turnout of 250+ people at a rally and march to demand Sound Transit build light rail to Ballard as promised in the voter-approved ST3 ballot measure.
Pretty sure Ron is talking about his proposal that he put out here.
Basically the funding is attached to the development as a tax abatement, and the developer pays the city if they don't do on-site IZ.

"The driving factors, in Wilson’s view, are the macroeconomics such as mortgage rates and home prices, which she can’t really change."
Idk what quote they are taking out of context here, but I think it's safe to say that Wilson's view is that zoning is a driving factor for housing prices.
"He pointed to a nationwide economic shift of people buying rentals with the intent of calling them home, because keeping them as rentals wouldn’t make financial sense."
WTF does this mean? A SFH that was rented out at some point doesn't get some sort of "rental" disease.
Even if I ignore that single-unit sales included condos and sfh owner-occupied didn't, investment property sales are always going to respond more quickly and robustly to sale-price movement than owner-occupied homes because the economics is the primary consideration.
Windermere's chief economist comparing the rate of increase of SFH owner-occupied sales rates to investment single-unit sales rates during the pandemic and claiming that it's a sign that our rental laws are too onerous is going to give me an aneurysm.
I just don't think we can or should make rental policy around trying to convince a 74 year old retiree to hold onto their investment property until they die.

The NIMBYs really need to get new arguments, I'm bored of these.
The reason we have nice things is because we(the annoying seattleites) have demanded and fought for them.
It's a lot easier to keep the rose colored glasses on when you don't have to engage with the less great parts of the city. Getting yelled at by drivers to "get out of the road" while biking down a street that's pretty much the only reasonable route to a destination isn't something tourists run into.
There's currently a standoff on my "bike route" street where two drivers are refusing to yield the right of way and are now parked in the middle of the street blocking traffic.
Totally reasonable 25% incline
This is leaving out that even if we built a ramp you'd have to bike on the absolutely shit MLK Jr way s sidewalk
There isn't an actual parallel flat street that a person on wheels could use to connect to MLK Jr way s. It's graham or bust
