"Using Maine law, the American Civil Liberties Union is seeking to hold federal agents accountable for the wrongful detention of a civil engineer in Portland during the large-scale operation in January."

From L.A. to Minneapolis, we've seen protesters across the country face violence & join together to demand justice.
Next week, join us @cunylaw.bsky.social & virtually as we learn how to strategically collaborate with fellow attorneys for a more powerful case.

So far, Vance’s foreign policy record is yelling at Zelensky for not thanking Trump enough, campaigning for AfD in Germany and Orban in Hungary, getting rejected by the Pope on his invite to the US, and failing in the Iran negotiations.
Just want to point out for those of us that normally don’t follow Europe closely that there’s an enormously important election in Hungary tomorrow. Pollsters predict that opposition leader Peter Magyar will defeat Orban, the classic autocrat who both Trump and Putin champion. Really worth following.
Before I became an American, I was Lebanese. Parts of my family live in Lebanon.
Anyway, you don't need those bona fides to feel this way, but what is happening in Lebanon right now is a complete outrage. The people there, who mostly are just trying to carve out a living, don't deserve this.
A WHOLE CIVILIZATION WILL DIE TONIGHT My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I'm wondering if they've closed their schools. Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it's "keep your children home so if you die, you die together" — instead of "well open back up once the plows have cleared" it's "we don't know if we'll be here tomorrow, hold your babies tight." It's just "talk" I'm told, which I've been told before. "It's how the president makes his deals." But I've never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I'm not certain I can look my son in the eyes if we all agree to stomach it one more time. A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: if this is what we call leadership then I'm not entirely sure ours isn't already dead. @michaelfdubois Mukad A QuBoy @michacifdubois
Brutal.
It’s crazy that the vice president openly intervening in a foreign election for the candidate backed by Russia ranks a distant second in insane things happening today.
For your citing purposes, U.S. law incorporation of the prohibition against genocide: 18 U.S.C § 1091; U.S. law incorporation of the prohibition against wantonly destroying infrastructure 18 U.S.C § 2441 which incorporates by reference Geneva Convention IV art. 147.
everything we are seeing now is the consequence of having a political environment in which indifference to the deaths and suffering of other people - even by the state whose supposed responsibility is to safeguard their welfare - is a superpower rather than a political liability
“A whole civilization will die” because of a waterway that “we don’t need”?
just imagine being a Trump supporter reading these posts and thinking your supporting the right guy. i can't even comprehend it.
Trump insane Easter post
Mamdani warm and gracious easter greetings
One of these political leaders has been repeatedly portrayed as an untrustworthy radical hostile to others because of his religious beliefs. You’’ll never guess which one!
Every day innocent people are locked up, CoreCivic gets more of your tax dollars
it’s not surprising exactly but it is still shocking just how fast we’ve moved from “woke was excessive” framing to open and explicit white male supremacy
police lie, and have no duty to protect you
you prolly haven't heard about Zorn v. Linton--an unsigned order the Supreme Court dropped the same morning they were indulging in mail ballot conspiracy theories
but the Court just quietly eroded the Fourth Amendment even more, and further empowered violent cops

As always, Josh Marshall has the best analysis of this mess.
In a just world, he would be the editor of the NYT or the WP.
He and his team do fantastic invaluable work and deserve your support.
Occurs to me that the last two years can be read as a period of jock ascendence in the eternal jock-nerd struggle for dominance. And it’s offering a pretty good reminder of the value nerds offer.
A golden era for … racism under law.
Yes, this is a very, very big deal.
Definitely a 9th Amendment penumbra argument in here somewhere.
This is exactly right.
Civil rights lawyer here. Regular everyday citizens who PLEAD GUILTY can (almost) NEVER have viable claims for malicious prosecution.
Family separation was seriously unpopular for exactly these reasons in 2018. No reason not to use the same label for today's policies.
When reading or hearing President Epstein the PedoFelon’s vile vomit about Robert Mueller, Rob Reiner and numerous others, remember Oliver’s brilliant 🎯 essay.
Never forget. We WILL Prevail.

Pretty chill weekend celebrating Mueller's death, threatening to destroy access to electricity for tens of millions of Iranian civilians, and promising to have ICE beat up Americans trying to catch a flight.
I don’t even get what the implicit threat of putting ICE In airports is…
“If you don’t fund ICE, I’m going to have ICE beat up affluent frequent flyers. HAHAHA!”
